Excellent Japanese-Pacific fusion that lives up to its reputation

This was the stand-out meal during our stay in the Bay Area. It's more than a sushi bar, and combines the best of traditional Japanese sushi dining with a wider choice of Pacific fusion dishes. Sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed some of the best sushi we have had in years, even here. You want to request the sushi bar as your executive chef personally prepares your every bite in front of you, superb o Toro, crispy fresh eel, perfect rice, unbelievably meticulous chef right in front of you. Under $150 and we had... More

As a Sushi restaurant, I recall this being one of the first around with actual sushi chefs. High quality product and a fan base of the location since it opened. A great location on Caledonia St in the old part of Sausalito and still making old as well as new Sushi product. Try the infused Sake too.

Went back after a few years. The restaurant has undergone some remodeling and the menu has changed somewhat. However, the food remains top-notch. The sushi nigiri is the best in the bay area. The service is great and ambience is nice.

Really great sushi presented well in a nice setting. Prices are reasonable for the food quality, service and location. It is a highlight of a visit to Sausalito. An unusual twist is that the restaurant is split in two by an outdoor walkway so you could be seated in a room on the other side of the walk from the... More

So, this place get more 'fine dining' authentic than the average "homey" Japanese restaurants. The 49er roll, I think was made famous here or just that this is the first place I had it-Avocado,Cucumber roll with slices of Salmon andPaper thin lemon on top that you eat all together and is a perfect bite of freshness. The whole menu has... More

Sat at the sushi bar and had access to expanded menu. Watched a great "show" by two very skilled chefs who really understand the importance of subtle touches. Fish is clearly fresh and their sources for the prepared fish really know what they're doing. The geso was great and the mackerel was smoked perfectly. Try the coconut crush cocktail.

We walked a mile from the ferry for this lunch and it was well worth it. Sushi Ran gets its sushi from the Tokyo fish market and it has some unique offerings. The restaurant is neat, clean and looks average but in no way is it average. We started with the Toro which is the best belly cut of tuna... More

Sushi Ran has been consistently the best sushi in Marin and maybe the best in the bay area. Unique combinations and creations, lots of fun small plates, very lively fun atmosphere, upscale. Not cheap but well worth it.
