this is a classic normal french restaurant, like may who travelled France, Belgium, Luxembourg or that area. But because it is in the US wine lands of Sonoma it becomes special. The ceiling is low (not sure if I recognized an AC, which felt good to me; but it was winter) The tables a re formed in relative bistro styl... More

The Wine Country offers many fine eating establishments, LaGare is one of the finest. Although not an "Over the Top" experience, we related the ambience to European style, attentive service and truly delicious cuisine.

We go to La Gare for most family celebrations including birthdays, anniversaries, etc. or when we feel the urge for those exquisite crab cakes, delicious filet mignon or to die for duck. The wine list is exceptional and fairly priced.

Wanting to try a new restaurant and in the mood for French, we tried La Gare for an early Sunday dinner. It has a very nice Bistro atmosphere and the staff was friendly but a tad chatty and familiar (I don't like that trait in waiters). My wife and I had Coq au Vin and Beef Wellington. I have to... I love this place and it is great for special occasions. The food is worth every penny and go with the house wine which is affordable and fantastic! Family owned and operated for decades and the pride they take in the service and food is obvious. Enjoy!

While there are many other more well known and pricer French Restaurants in the Vally La Gare is a gem. Small, French "country" with care to detail by the owners. Menu is small, and thats a good thing, the sole is fantastic! Limited wine list, but that's ok. I had just returned from Paris and thought I was still there!... More

Every time we stay in Santa Rosa we dine here. It is classic French bistro fare, from the roast duck to the coq au vin. Patricia Wells would dedicate a chapter to this place. Most entrees include soup and salad. The soap is usually a classic vegetable puree soup, and the salad is a light butter lettuce salad with a... More

We were travelling in the area, and wandered in without a reservation on a busy Saturday night, on a whim. We were immediately greeted and treated by every member on staff, from hostess to busboy, with humour, attention, and excellent service throughout. The food was superb - we had three courses and wine, and I would say overall it is... More

We lucked into a winemakers dinner here and enjoyed wonderful local wine (Balletto) paired with a fantastic menu. Since we did not order from a menu I won't go into too much detail but we loved the crab cakes made with yams. We were seated with locals who come here often which I think indicates a high quality restaurant. A... More
