Yummy Mexican in a historic Santa Paula restaurant

Good food and interesting history at this long time Santa Paula restaurant - owned and operated by the Diaz family for the past 80 yrs. (though, per our waiter, it's been sold to a new owner - due to change hands in June, 2015, but maintaining the same recipes, cooks and staff). We had the "house... read more

A long time favorite place for Mexican food, super tasty, an excellent salsa bar! Go there before new owners take over, although the new owners have purchased the great recipes, so we'll keep our fingers crossed that they can pull off the same great taste!

Not the first time we have eaten here, and it probably won't be the last. I had the traditional tacos, not as good as the enchiladas and burritos I have had in the past, but still very good. The service was very good, quick and efficient and the wait staff are excellent. We were there for a lunch and the... More

This restaurant has a For Sale sign, which almost scared us off, but the food is still good. The family operating the restaurant for decades is retiring next year. There is a salsa bar in the center of the restaurant for personally spicing your meal to your preference, which explains other reviews comments on the mild spicing of their meal.... More

Our two visits rendered mixed results. What we liked were the albondigas soup and chili verde. What failed totally were the tamales, which had crusty and tough masa and flavorless pork and sauce. They should never have left the kitchen. It is likely they are not made in-house. Also my wife did not care for her refried beans. Enchiladas, meat... More

We have eaten here a number of times and had consistently very good food and drinks. The service has also been pleasant and timely so I am puzzled by some of the recent negative reviews. The homemade salsas are delicious and so are the margaritas. Our favorite dishes are the carnitas and the chili relleno smothered in chili verde. The... More

This used to be a good restaurant. But it has been going downhill for years. I think people just est there out of habit. There is much better available all over town, and particularly at El Pescador!

I've been eating the Guacamole Toppers at the Familia Diaz since the 1970's. My wife samples many other dishes. It just doesn't get any better when it comes to Mexican Food. The service is always good, the staff friendly with plenty of parking.

Have been to this restaurant in the past but our last experience did turn us off to coming here for a while. Came in as a family and after ordering it seemed to take quite a while to get our food. The waitress didn't bring our drinks very quickly and when we mentioned we didn't have any silverware, she went... More

Familia Diaz service is a nightmare!!!!! Me and wife usually split a margarita when we eat Mexican and it was happy hour at familia Diaz so we ordered one. I ordered the drink and confirmed with the waitress that it was 50 percent off and she said yes. When the bill arrived I noticed that they charged me 18.00 dollars... More
