NY Deli in LA

LA has been my home for two plus decades but my taste buds remain those of a born and bred New Yorker's which is why Fromin's is such a great find. While the accent and attitude are different -- less accentuated vowels and friendlier service -- the food reminds me of the best tastes from my... read more

Came here on recommendation and had a great value dinner. Large portions and very tasty. Great Matzo ball soup too and very friendly service. I does what is says on the tin and unlike so many other delis, is very reasonably priced. Recommended.

I was in Santa Monica for a high school reunion (hadn't been there for a good 25 years), and came across Fromin's while I was looking at old haunts. Since Jewish food isn't very available where I live, I decided to stop in and get something to eat. I decided on half a chopped chicken liver sandwich and half a... More

In its class one of the best - certainly in the neighbourhood. Great selection of Jewish Soul Food to eat in or take out. Ruben Sandwichs to Blintzes, Dill Pickles and Bagels to Lox and Corned Beef Hash. Whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack, its hard to beat, even egg creams and Dr. Brown's Sodas! Friendly service and very... More

I wanted a deli sandwich. And I got my wish. Fabulous Pastrami on Rye with cole slaw, heaven. The pastrami was lean and flavorful. No frills here a real basic deli. My husband had chopped liver and chopped egg delish. Great lunch.

Whenever someone in the family gets sick or needs comfort food, Fromin's has the best Matzo ball soup on the westside...Maybe anywhere in CA. Balls as big as your fist with noodles and broth. Add a little rye bread and skip your doc/urgent care visit. This is real medicine. Of course, its' also just good for your soul and as... More

Perfect place to get a hearty breakfast or brunch. Nice selection of breakfast foods (and deli items too). Food was prepared quickly and delivered quickly to our table by our very friendly waiter. Food was hot and very tasty. We were stuffed by the time we finished the food on our plates, but we were not rushed so it was... More

Not a romantic night out place, but if you like Jewish Style food then this is where to go in the LA area. Enormous variety, vast portions and good taste and value. Friendly staff add to the atmosphere, as do the overhead TVs showing muted sports programmes. The sound de jour on the day we went was Turkey Vegetable, so... More

I have eaten in delis all my life, in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. Fromin's disappointed big time. The meager amount of corned beef was dry, as were the slices of rye bread. The kishke was bland and tastless. The coffee cake tasted like a piece of bread with sugar on it. All in all, this restaurant did not... More

I eat here w/my friends and out-of-town guests when we can not make it to Canters Deli. I love their sandwiches, pickles and desserts.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
