A Good Deli is a Wonderful Thing

There aren't a lot of good Jewish-style delis around anymore. You know, the comfortable, relaxing places with comfort food and a wait staff that is friendly and warm. Yes, this is a REAL deli with the usual fare... corned beef, pastrami, etc. Breakfast is good. Deli platters are good but a little expensive. Great pickles and matzo ball soup.

If you live far from a deli as we do, then it is good to have somewhere like this to take out from on an occasional trip to Santa Monica. Chopped liver, pastrami, and chicken in the pot were all winners and this place gives Cantor's a run for its money.

Fromins is a great breakfast place. Casual, relaxed atmosphere, big menu, decent prices. Great lox and bagels, with gluten free bagels too. Their ham and eggs are wonderful. My husband loves their corn beef hash. We go almost every Sarpturday, and it is the kind of place you can have a good traditional breakfast at a leisurely pace.

Came here on recommendation and had a great value dinner. Large portions and very tasty. Great Matzo ball soup too and very friendly service. I does what is says on the tin and unlike so many other delis, is very reasonably priced. Recommended.

I was in Santa Monica for a high school reunion (hadn't been there for a good 25 years), and came across Fromin's while I was looking at old haunts. Since Jewish food isn't very available where I live, I decided to stop in and get something to eat. I decided on half a chopped chicken liver sandwich and half a... More

In its class one of the best - certainly in the neighbourhood. Great selection of Jewish Soul Food to eat in or take out. Ruben Sandwichs to Blintzes, Dill Pickles and Bagels to Lox and Corned Beef Hash. Whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack, its hard to beat, even egg creams and Dr. Brown's Sodas! Friendly service and very... More

LA has been my home for two plus decades but my taste buds remain those of a born and bred New Yorker's which is why Fromin's is such a great find. While the accent and attitude are different -- less accentuated vowels and friendlier service -- the food reminds me of the best tastes from my childhood. Bon Appetit.

I wanted a deli sandwich. And I got my wish. Fabulous Pastrami on Rye with cole slaw, heaven. The pastrami was lean and flavorful. No frills here a real basic deli. My husband had chopped liver and chopped egg delish. Great lunch.

Whenever someone in the family gets sick or needs comfort food, Fromin's has the best Matzo ball soup on the westside...Maybe anywhere in CA. Balls as big as your fist with noodles and broth. Add a little rye bread and skip your doc/urgent care visit. This is real medicine. Of course, its' also just good for your soul and as... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
