The Food -- SO GOOD

There are many great places to eat in Santa Monica, especially in the hot Montana area. We were staying around the corner and trying to eat somewhere new within walking distance. There are waiters who are actually Italian at Locanda Portofino. Very unusual in LA. Food is good. Wine pour of a glass of wine is generous. Service was attentive. Prices are very expensive, and pasta as a main dish is a very small serving. Keanu Reeves was there, so maybe you'll see a star.

A little hidden gem! Great service, great food and great wine. A menu that covers pretty much anything you could wsh for and daily specials explaned nicely by a waiter who looks lke George Clooney :-). Not cheap but reasonable for the quality.

This is a little restaurant sort of hidden away but right in the middle of Montana Avenue. It is mostly frequented by locals.Great authentic Italian food, you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. My personal favorite is the Rigatoni Melanzane. I don't really recommend this place for children as the food is quite pricey, and the portions are... More

This was our first visit to this tiny neighborhood restaurant. We sat on the patio overlooking Montana ave - always a good people watching venue. Waiters were amiable and prompt. I started with a lovely tangy salad of arugula and walnuts - very fresh. Chicken with mozzarella and prosciutto in a light sauce was also delicious. Finished with chocolate mousse... More

Being from an area with good food I was skeptical about eating Italian. Went with family based on a friends recommendation. Glad I listen. Food was outstanding. Will repeat. Fish was fresh. Pasta was very tasteful. Go if in the area. You won't be disappointed.

Don't be put off by the mini-mall exterior for it betrays a warm and inviting restaurant with great ambiance, superior service (no actors in this bunch) and best of all fantastic Italian food. It has been our go-to restaurant for the past 18 years - we know we will always be welcomed warmly and made to feel as though we... More

Yes, this restaurant is small, but it is absolutely delightful. We sat outside on the patio, which was lovely. The veal dishes are fantastic, as was the meatball appetizer. The wine list is quite extensive as well. We loved it!

Charming neighborhood spot with consistent excellent dishes. You can never go wrong with the Bolognese or the specials. Excellent, deep wine list. Attentive service to boot. We frequent this place with friends and family. And our six-year-old loves the place and the staff always makes everyone feel welcome - it's a perfect place for elegant couples dining or dinner with... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
