We stopped here for drinks one evening. The wine was overpriced and not too good. We asked for seltzer and ended up paying $9 for a bottle of Pellegrino.

Every time we come to Santa Monica we walk by this place on our way to the 3rd street promenade but have never gone in. From observing the people who go in, I assumed it would be stuffy & expensive. This time we decided to give it a try, what a nice surprise. From the outside you would never know... More

Not sure why its till open...There's no reason to return for more nonexistent service and poor food. Good: Reservation and greeted presently and seated immediately Beautiful and relaxing space Bad: Sat a long long time before server stopped by to say he'd be back Finally ordered drinks from the water-server Finally asked bussed walking by for a menu Server finally... Went to Michael's for happy hour and ordered some appetizers as well. The food was tasty and the indoor garden atmosphere was pleasant, but these were Santa Monica prices, for sure. The owner's wife's artwork graces the walls. The lighting was dimmed for evening diners so I couldn't actually see everything I was eating, but I remember liking the fresh... More

Should of left after waiter recommended the pork, which was sold out and then the water glasses were dirty and I mean dirty. Went to dine with 3 friends after good reviews on LA weekly. Service very slow. Waiters not professional for the type of establishment. Only ordered main courses, 2 were cold and the swordfish was raw. Tried to... More

Michael's remains fresh and refreshed through the years. New menu with small plates added is full of wonderful surprises and can keep the costs down. Service has always had a unique informal formality which is very comfortable as well. Decor is gentle and lovely as always.

I normally don't write negative reviews, but this is the 2nd time Michael's has disappointed me. I used to love the old Michael's. It was classy and one of the 5 best restaurants in Santa Monica. Not anymore. The New Michael's is more casual and informal. The menu is simple and not interesting. Michael's still has one of the finest... More

This is a really great place to go! I enjoyed everything - food, wine, service, location, atmosphere.. Really.. Its a place not to miss! Since we were there in April and its still a bit chilly at night, their terrace is covered and heated, and is really beautiful!! You have the impression of eating in somewhere exotic! Its really nice.... More

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
