Very good, but expensive

I had lunch here with two friends. Three salads and three glasses of wine came to $105 plus tip. Whew. We had amazing seats with a direct view of the beach, with awesome service, and we could afford it, so no regrets, but it's steep.

Good food and excellent coffee. Occasional celebrity sitings too! Sit at the bar and get great service.

Great little spot for a leisurely lunch. The staff were attentive, without making you feel rushed to eat and go. Our table had the shaved beef sandwich (good) and the lobster roll (great - but really a lobster salad sandwich). If you sit out on the patio, be sure to get a shady spot as the sun, without a breeze,... More

This IS a classy place but so welcoming even though we had young kids with us. Nothing was too difficult, odd or awkward - if that is what we all ordered that is what we could have. Stylish seating and decoration; really efficient and friendly service; quality and varied food - all within 50 yards of the beach with an... More

First visit to Coast. Service was impeccable - our server made the best mimosas I've ever had. Delicious eggs Benedict and Veggie Omelet. Loved the beach house decor - nice artwork of muscle beach from the 50's/60's. Can't wait to go back.

We visit this restaurant quite often. It's probably one of the best dining experiences I've had. The service is exemplary, great selections, wonderful wine list (carry my fav Far Niente chard). Even wonderful dessert selection.

Casual and relaxed with high quality meals and service overlooking beach and boardwalk. Can be very busy during lunch hour and on weekend breakfast periods.

Wonderful drinks, atmosphere and menu. I was alone so I dined at the bar. Bartenders were very nice and knowledgeable. Food was outstanding as was the view. Will be back.

It is not their problem that we went there after dark, so we did not take advantage of the location that is probably very nice, facing the beach. Other than that, it was an average experience, average food. Cioppino was quite tasty but a little skimpy on seafood. Cake was a C-, despite of the raving from the waitress. Quite... More

We stopped into Shutters just to look around, it is such a landmark location. We decided to have a light lunch before heading to the airport and went to the CHEAPEST OPTION in the hotel, which was the beachside café. The café is very clean and crisp (tough when you are on the beach!) and the service was EXCELLENT! I... More

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
