Good Meal - Interesting Venue

We had wandered around Santa Monica and then, with our teenage kids, looked for somewhere to eat. A quick check on line suggested it would be fine, so in we went. The place is quite dark and we were amused when a neighbouring table used their mobiles as torches to read the menu! The food was... read more

We were recommend this from the lonely planet guide. We went on our first night in Santa Monica and it really is a cool little place. We wanted a true love al experience and get it here. Helpful staff and lovely food. Maybe a bit pricey but they make up for that in other areas like constant water service, free... More

Very good meal, enjoyed starters and main courses with family group who don't know Mexican food well. Really fresh tasting and delicious. Portions not too large as well for a change. Would go back again if I could.

I am a big fan of Border Grill. More of an elevated mexican place- each dish is booming w flavors! not a fan of the decor and the drinks seem a little weak but dont let it stop you from going there (just get water !)

So what were my expectations? That each item would be distinct of flavor, well executed, and show some upscale flair. I grew up on Mexican food in Los Angeles both at the white tablecloth and hole in the wall levels, and have a strong sense of what Mexican food is. We were there for brunch and ordered about ten items... More

Ate here on recommendation of the hotel concierge sadly not as good as his other choices. The meal was very bland and not at all spicy. The portions were large and consisted of uninspiring Mexican food.

We visited Border Grill for lunch based on some good reviews we had read. Our waitress was really nice and service was good. Food was quite tasty but sadly this was not the best Mexican food we have eaten - we would probably favour trying somewhere different over returning here for something a bit more interesting/authentic.

My husband and I visited Border Grill twice during our visit to Santa Monica. First for the happy hour. We had cocktails (they were very nice) and got complimentary nachos with salsa sause. We came back to following day for lunch. The food was fantastic! The service was also very good; our waitor was attentive and very nice. I'm definitely... More

Aaaah! I give myself so much credit for finding a place like this for brunch. I was looking for a comfortable place to enjoy the start of the weekend and drink some bottomless mimosas. One, two mimosas just does not do it... it has to be bottomless. At Border you can for only $10. I think my mimosas ended up... More

Excellent Mexican style food for a great, reasonable price. The guacamole is very good and I truly enjoyed my fish tacos.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
