Step inside Il Fornaio and take a culinary journey through Italy. Early mornings bring rustic, crisp crusted bread hot from the oven accompanied by the scent of fresh brewed espresso. During lunch and dinner hours, pastas and flavorful sauces simmer while meats and vegetables roast over hot coals. Bottles of wine from small, regional wineries are uncorked to complement the dishes, which have been crafted in the custom of Italy's chefs, bakers and homemakers. Specialties include wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade pastas; pizzas from an oak wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; a wide variety of desserts; and fresh baked bread made daily from scratch. Winner of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence 2007.

Great food, great prices

Pizzas, pastas, sandwiches -- in a restaurant setting at very reasonable prices. Servers are very friendly and they offer free parking in the lot behind the building. Great place for a workday lunch meeting.

average quality of the food unfortunately i expected so much more especially after reading reviews on this place! Pizza is not so good and far from being a real italian pizza. Place is nice and clean but not the best option in Santa Monica.

We asked to sit outside and the waiter took us to our table. They had not set the table, we had to ask the waiter for water, napkins and knife and forks. We then asked for bread and olive oil. We ordered a bottle of wine - the waiter poured the wine but did not notice that the wine glass... More

We ate here on 4th of July 2012 and absolutely loved it here! The service was extremely friendly, and helpful, the food was delicious and really good sized portions as well! The carpaccio starter and the seafood linguini (I think that's what it was, it had half a lobster in it) were absolutely delicious, and I would love to go... More

I'm Italian and went to this restaurant after 20 days spent in the US. I was really willing to eat some Italian food and decided along with my fiancé to have a pizza and 2 dishes of pasta. The pizza was very good, really..it tasted pretty much like the one you eat in Italy. Also the pasta, with my surprise,... More

The ABSOLUTELY WORST service I have ever had. Perhaps the waiter is adverse to serving women who are eating alone. It took forever to actually get service. Then the waiter brought me my glass of wine. No bread as the other diners received. I had to ask the guy clearing the next table for some bread. Then the waiter brought... More

I have been to Il Fornaio in Corte Madera many times and enjoyed it each time. The Santa Monica location was just as nice. The food is very good. They have a gluten free pasta option which is nice. Price is very good. Service is casual but attentive.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
