Excellent food and service at this buzzing Italian restaurant

This was our 4th visit over a 7 or 8 year period. We reserved in advance to be sure of a table and were glad that we had done so as it was very busy, even on a Tuesday evening. Friendly welcome, our table was ready and service was very prompt, notwithstanding the restaurant being full. Our meals... read more

Excellent Italian cuisine. Tables very close together so not very romantic and quiet if that is what you are looking for however we enjoyed our meal immensely. Large portions as well. I had pasta and my husband thin crust pizza. Both really good.

I generally enjoyed this restaurant but it did have some qwerks. We smelled something foul when we first walked in, and the host was rather snooty as he dismissed it as coming from the nail studio next door. We didn't smell anything during dinner, but we did not appreciate the attitude. Our waitress did a nice job but again was... More

Came here for dinner on a Friday night. Definitely make a reservation as we were glad that we did. Totally packed the entire time that we were there. Know that the tables are very close together. We didn't mind but if you want romantic or private this isn't the place for you. The food was very good and the service... More

Really amazing food and good wine. Had the lamb chops and they are really good! A modern looking Italian nearby Venice beach. Highly recommended!

Found the restaurant through tripadvisor searching for italian options. La vecchia cucina came up. The restaurant was full, the maitre made every effort to get us in fast. Service was impecable and the food marvelous. Had the burrata and the spaguetti a la vongole both excellent. Need to go back to try the creme brulee. Very fairly priced.

We strolled in off the street on Monday night after having decided apon Italian and checking on yelp to see that this was the place to go in town. Main Street was a fair walk from the main drag of things but worth the effort plus we were starving when we arrived. A fairly snooty man at the door shook... More

This place was packed on a Tuesday which says it all really. Good food & service with excellent ambience. Lovely pizza and pasta. One downside is that for kids it's half sizes on pasta (not pizza) only.

We have enjoyed this restaurant on several occasions when visiting Santa Monica. The service has always been friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The food has been very good to excellent on each visit. On our last visit I ordered the Tri-Colori salad and the Branzini. The salad was excellent and the Branzini perfectly broiled. My husband had the Pesce Bianco. He... More

We were here for a family gathering, decided to dine here on the recommendation of a local. Extensive wine list, and according to my cousins, had very fair prices for the wine.we all chose a pasta dish, but I feel the Bologenese was the best I have had , since we dined in Florence, Italy.would highly recommend this restaurant.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
