We were greeted at the door, graciously seated, and immediately provided with water and menus. Our waiter, Jordi, soon was at our table with information on wine selection, and answered questions about the menu. There are not many restaurants that remind me of Italy, but la Vecchia has a seafood salad (Capricorn Imperiale) that took me back to Florence. It is shrimp, lobster, and calimari in a refreshing lemon and olive oil vinaigrette. I could have eaten 3 of these salads, they are that good. Then I also had the Tagiliata di Manzo...pounded filet... More

A bright, noisy location on Main Street in Santa Monica with good Italian food and a nice wine list. Service was good and the vibe of the place is casual. There were couples, small groups and some folks hanging around the bar. Appears to be a mix of locals and visitors. The menu affords for a broad enough selection so... More

Happy Hour begins at 5 PM and there is ALWAYS a small line forming about 4:50 as the bar fills to capicity when the doors open. This restaurant is friendly, good food and good service with reasonable prices as well. I mention the Happy Hour because I'm often a solo diner and don't eat large portions so for me it's... More

The food was very good but all the Veal dishes were not available. They told us that the Veal that came in was not up to there standards and did not want to serve it. The Chicken Parm. was well done and the Calamri was done to perfection. The stuffed chicken was also excellent. They are very children friendly.

This was a spur of the moment reservation and I was very pleased with outcome. The restaurant was easy to find and plenty of street parking. I phoned ahead for a reservation, something I highly recommend. The food was delicious and service was quick. We ordered the pizza and seafood pescator, which was fantastic. The only thing that was slightly... More

Very good Italian food! And reasonably priced. Branzino al Forno was very good. Lasagna was just perfect: homemade pasta with good cheese; with liitle bit of crust outside and not overcooked inside. Service was just right: attentive, but not overbearing. We all loved this place!

I had linguini alle vongole (clams). This is a favorite dish for me, and I have ordered at many restaurants over many years. This is the best instance I can recall, perhaps because of a slight spiciness. I suspect it was primarily because the clams were of a high quality. My wife had the branzini, (fish), which she liked. A... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
