I think El Cholo is the best Mexican restaurant in Southern California! I have been going there with family and friends for over 50 years. Summer is our favorite time to go because they offer green corn tamales from May to October. They are the best tamales I have ever had. All the food is good but people especially like... More

We have dined in this restaurant before, and this occasion was no disappointment. On a Friday night at sixish we expected it to be crowded and it was but there was still room ,and fortunately they have a first come first grab policy on the outside dining, and we were able to grab a table outside. We each had a... More

This restaurant used to be good. But tonight our food came with a terrible surprise - lurking within the green corn tamales was a crumbled up bar napkin. The drinks used to be good. But tonight one of drinks was served in a special glass - a used glass that the waitress just picked up from another table. Another one... More

We went on a Sunday evening thinking it wouldn't be crowded. We were seated upstairs. When walking through it was very crowded with lots of children running around and yelling. Our table was a booth. Next to us was party of a teenage girl. I get teenage energy, but this was over the top. Their parents did nothing to control... More

We have been to the original El Cholo in downtown L.A., so we tried this Santa Monica location. Nice decor and friendly service. My wife had a appetizer plate as her meal and she enjoyed it. I had the chili Colorado which was very good. Basic rice and beans come with it. Good margaritas and plenty of chips and salsa.... More

Stopped in after seeing some comedy in downtown Santa Monica. We had a large party and came in right before the kitchen closed on a Sunday night, but our server was incredibly sweet and didn't make us feel rushed at all. In fact she made us feel relaxed, encouraging us to take our time. The decor is cute and colorful.... More

I've been here a few times and love it. I like to come during lunch typically on a Saturday. Enoc Rodriguez who is in charge of the kitchen is the best.I aalways ask for my chile relleno in a specific way and he makes it. Never says no just does it love his the best. I come back and recommend... More

10-20 years ago food was great. Now it's bland and ordinary probably from a central kitchen delivering to its various SoCal locations. Menu is limited to commonly ordered dishes that won't upset stomachs from Peoria.

Came here with some friends and really enjoyed ourselves. Nice wine selection, courteous service and nice ambiance. There was a wide variety of food options, but wasn't excessively impressed with the taste. Still, food was seasoned enough to enjoy and for the price, it was worth it.
