Excellent Mexican food. The Super Special Beef Burrito is about as big as a football. A serving of homemade chips and salsa and a pickled dish of carrots, onions, etc. hits the table as soon as you sit down. Great margaritas too. FYI Cash only.

Good food. Quick service. Not fancy but comfortable. Good mix of customers. Decor made up of quirky mementos and snapshots.

Went there based on others reviews, big mistake. Pitcher of margaritas $14.50, poured out of a gallon jug and tasted like chemicals. Food was mediocre at best. I had the super extra mule which was nothing but bland shedded pork (no spice) with a bit of cheese and a glaze of tasteless verde sauce. Service was ok but no one... More

Can't believe I've never reviewed Gilbert's. I've eaten here ever since I was a little kid. Classic family style Mexican restaurant. Reasonably authentic food. Great staff: friendly, helpful and most seem to have been there for decades. Service can a be a little slow sometimes. Cash only (ATM is in the bar area) and no reservations Lots of family and... I know this is a restaurant and my review should be all about the food, and it was good, better than the Mexican food in my State of Florida, but for me it was about the service here. It was unusually friendly with a bit comedy thrown it.

Food quality, cost all great, ambience fun and lively, only downside is the service was 'hurried' not allowing any break between courses. I don't know if it is Californian thing but we have noticed this in most resteraunts while have been here, this as compared with other parts of the USA or Europe

Gilbert's has been serving great food at reasonable prices for years. The shredded beef tacos and cheese enchiladas are wonderful! I make it a point to dine at Gilbert's whenever I am in Los Angeles. Gilbert's does not accept charge cards, but the prices are very reasonable.

Gilbert's in Santa Monica is a great little family run restaurant. I have been going there fore years. It is a cash only business that does not accept credit or checks. The service is good, but the food is fantastic! From the Birria to the Super Mule Burrito!

After frequenting Gilbert's for almost two decades now, I HAVE to give it 5/5 stars. It's also a big bonus that they know me by my name there. =) Fernando is always extremely gracious and the rest of the staff is always friendly and attentive. It's my favorite Mexican restaurant on the Westside and ALL of LA for that matter...... More

The chicken soup was so salty it tasted like the Dead Sea! The beans and rice however were completely unseasoned. Will not go back as it really isn't very good, just your average rather tacky Mexican restaurant, the type you can find anywhere. Go a few blocks further east to Lares and you will see the difference. Drinks were acceptable... More
