Great Breakfast Spot

I used to come here all the time. I've been living over seas. I'm happy to say everything is still great. Great Breakfast. Fast service. If you sit in the front you can chat with the locals. Highly recommended

We unknowingly came for dinner at Gilberts on “Taco Tuesday”, when they serve mini-tacos for $1 each. As a result, the place was very crowded, but dinner for three cost us less than 20 bucks! The soft tacos were great, and they kept refilling our basket of tortilla chips and salsa. This is not a fancy place--- the Formica tables... More

Always looking for "local" food when I travel and found this place - Great Food and really crowded on a Sunday night! people coming and going. Good choices and if you go on the weekend you can order bbq lamb in a nice broth that falls off the bone! Just one thing - bring cash! they don't take checks or... More

Families go here. Generations of families go here. Their photos stapled to the booths tell the story of the neighborhood. But you feel welcome the very first time you walk in the door. Old school Mexican food. Burritos, tacos, carnitas all served with bottomless house fried chips and picked carrots. The jukebox skews classic rock, the booth seats have indentations... More

Spent a couple of days in LA and not only I was back at Gilbert's every night, this mouth-drooling experience prompted me to write my first review ever. Needless to say I love Mexican cuisine, and since there is not that many Mexican restaurants around where I live, I taught myself how to make a couple of decent dishes. Gilbert's... More

I went in to share my birthday with my children... The staff was incredibly personable and they even brought out whip cream and a candle to sing to me... The kids all enjoyed their meal which always makes for a better day for me as a mom. The price was extremely reasonable, I will go back to take my husband... More

Excellent Mexican food. The Super Special Beef Burrito is about as big as a football. A serving of homemade chips and salsa and a pickled dish of carrots, onions, etc. hits the table as soon as you sit down. Great margaritas too. FYI Cash only.

Good food. Quick service. Not fancy but comfortable. Good mix of customers. Decor made up of quirky mementos and snapshots.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
