It's considered to be two Michelin star restaurant. The Chef/owner there is Josiah Citrin, who is Los Angeles native, but learned and experience his culinary professionalism in the city of lights - Paris. But what is Michelin restaurant here and over there - completely different stories. They have a dress code in Europe for this kind of fine dining. Here... More

Compared to my dining experience 2 years ago, the dinner I had last night was a huge disappointment. - No service at all, there were many waiters standing around doing nothing - Nobody asked me whether I like the food or not (this is below expectation - Melisse HAD Michelin 2 stars) - Paid extra $65 for wagyu beef filet,... This place is off the charts amazing!!! Honestly, likely the best dining experience of this lifetime! Honestly! I just returned from a week in Paris, France....we had many nice meals there, but every night I just kept thinking, not nearly as good as Melisse! The presentation is truly amazing. This is one of the greatest restaurants on the planet earth!... More

I went to the restaurant with two colleagues expecting an excellent dinner. The service was adequate. The food arrived with a very small portion and it was tough. The entire dining experience, down to the specialized silverware and plating, was extremely disappointing. I have eaten at comparable restaurants in Las Vegas, London and New York, but they are all 1000%... More

Had high hopes for this place, and except for the friendliness of the staff, we were disappointed on all counts. The dishes lack flavor and coherency, with flavors working against each other instead of with each other. And the price ... way way way overpriced. Service was spotty throughout. Drink pacing was off. Only part of our menu's were picked... More

This is a good place to bring a date or to celebrate an anniversary. Positives: - Very attentive service - Great decor - High quality cooking and presentation - Unusual sense and taste Negatives: - Prepare to spend $150-200 a person (set menu only) Tips: Bring your own wines. This place is only for those special occasions.

This restaurant never fails us, make a reservation and Magic happens. The food is superb, atmosphere great, service wanting for nothing. It may seem a little pricy, but it goes with the territory.

This was our second visit to Melisse. We were celebrating our marriage, that had taken place on the beach in Florida. We chose the prixe fixe menu (not the ten course Red, we'd never be able to make it through ten courses) and wine pairing for my wife. I chose a single glass of rosé champagne that was recommended by... More

We visited this restaurant with another couple several weeks ago. Based on the ratings and reviews, we had high hopes. Those hopes, however, were by and large dashed. The total bill for our party of four with tip exceeded $1400. I admit we had high expectations, but at those prices, I think we are entitled to expect something special. Sadly,... More

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
