Let me start by saying it was a good meal. Now the problem. Bad attitude from the minute you walk in. Service is beyond slow. Took 3.5 hours for the quick menu. Decor is boring. Prices are outrageous. If you want to endure the torture the food is good.

Melissa does not look great from outside but this restaurant is GOOD, not only the best french restaurant in Los Angeles area but THE best. Excellent service, excellent food. Downside now : EXPENSIVE.... Wines are more than expensive, they are at outrageous prices. Better be invited there !!!!

We were celebrating a special day and we decided to check out this 2 starred Michelin restaurant with all of the accolades. ....well it passed with flying colors. We chose the 10 course tasting menu and we decided to order 2 half bottles of wine to pair with our courses. Can I say just about perfect....only one dish wasn't worthy... More

For years I have complained that Los Angeles has not had many in the way of Spectacular restaurants. Yes some Five Star but not five star plus any Diamonds. Now LA does. My wife and four of our friends had dinner at Melisse. Now LA does have a restaurant with five stars and two Diamonds! I had not been to... More

I will not eat here again as Josiah Citrin, the chef and owner of this restaurant is happy to get foie gras back on his customers’ plates. Cycling thousands of tonnes of grain through suffering animals in order to produce a tiny amount of snob-munch is a practice as backward as any I can think of. Decent people everywhere agree... We came here for Thanksgiving Dinner and everything was so spectacular that we had to come back again the next evening as well. Very extensive and impressive wine list. Make sure you order the chicken for two it was by the far the best we have ever had anywhere in the world. If your fortunate enough to be there during... More

We selected a tasting menu here (the middle one, with 10 courses, which was plenty of food) with matching wines. All too frequently, we find that matching fines do not reach the level of the food, even in the best restaurants. This is one of the best restaurant meals we've had, the the wines were on par. The wines -... More

Every year me and my husband enjoy traveling out of the country to celebrate our anniversary. We had heard many great things of Melisse in Santa Monica, so we decided to try it this year. I was flabbergasted by the service and quality given. My expectations were highly exceeded and loved the Golden Imperial Osetra Caviar I was served. We... More

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
