It is hard not to imagine what these extraordinary plates of superb preparations must be thinking: One moment they are being fussed over in the kitchen, dozens of passionate hands taking pride in their meticulous artistry, the next moment they are being served in the dining room by unctuous, self-important staff that must explain to thoroughly confused patrons why every... Forget the pretentious, condescending, poor reviews of cry babies and busybodies who reveal themselves, not the restaurant. Melisse is as fine a dining experience as one will ever have. Give yourself over to the professional staff, whose expertise shows that the front of the house is as important as the back; supported by the stellar kitchen and genius creativity, Melisse... More

Amazing service, great food, wonderful wine list-ask for a banquette. If you are worried about calories, don't like rich food or you are on a budget, this is probably not the place for you.

Our expectations were high considering the many awards won be this restaurant. Unassuming outside but beautifully adorn inside. I must say the wait staff were well mannered and service excellent although I felt we were rushed along a bit too much. The food... Well there's the rub. Ingenious presentations but just not that good. We left a little disappointed. So... More

We went there with friends to celebrate a birthday. We all chose the prix fixe menu with wine pairings. The food was imginative, beautifully prepared and the wine pairings did an excellent job of complementing each course. The pacing of the courses was managed well and our servers were friendly and engaging. It was a great celebration dinner.

Melisse is a hidden treasure in Santa Monica - we were celebrating a birthday and enjoyed a perfect evening. The dining room is nicely arranged, decor is relaxing, with comfortable chairs and (in our case) a large round table with plenty of space. The restaurant was fully booked on a Saturday night but the entire meal was perfectly paced. There... More

Let me start by saying it was a good meal. Now the problem. Bad attitude from the minute you walk in. Service is beyond slow. Took 3.5 hours for the quick menu. Decor is boring. Prices are outrageous. If you want to endure the torture the food is good.

Melissa does not look great from outside but this restaurant is GOOD, not only the best french restaurant in Los Angeles area but THE best. Excellent service, excellent food. Downside now : EXPENSIVE.... Wines are more than expensive, they are at outrageous prices. Better be invited there !!!!

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
