Romantic bistro in Santa Monica canyon

Exquisite continental cuisine in cozy quaint atmosphere. Lovely spot for a relaxing dining experience. Wonderful alternative to hustle-and-bustle in downtown Santa Monica.

I really want to sing the praises of this little gem. The food tasted as good as any we ate in Paris. The location is rough and as soon as you turn onto Channel Road, just pull in and valet park. I want this restaurant to thrive because the food and service were phenomenal. Give it a try.

Sam's is a French/Mediterranean restaurant in the canyon. The food and service are excellent. While the room is pleasant and somewhat intimate, the noise level makes conversation a bit difficult. It will be a place we will value especially when we're in the mood for some old style French food. If the noise level were lower, it would be special.

SM canyon has several long-term upscale restaurants...Sam's is The secret spot. Small and intimate. Quiet without being silent. Greeted like family without fakey-ness. Eclectic menu from pasta, steaks and great seafood to elk and quail! We had pasta and quail...So looking forward to returning. Only complaint is that it was sorta chilly in the room and cold outside. We'll be... More

We had been on a very hectic couple of days and when we arrived we knew this was the right place for us. The welcoming was warm and genuine. It was New Year's Eve and although we were new to the restaurant we were treated like good friends. The menu was small due to the holiday but the choices were... More

While visiting my sister/cousin in her Santa Monica residence, we pondered a choice for dinner. Would it be a commercial venue on the Promenade, or a small setting populated by just the locals? We chose the latter. Sam's by the Beach seemed to be a place that those who have been there before would frequent again. The restaurant, located in... More

If you have to ask the price this dining experience will be no fun at all, but... California cuisine with a heavy French influence. Be prepared to take the server and owner's advice and go for the specials. The wine list is extensive and they may have extras, so ask. I loved the food and the vibe. My best dining... More

I had eaten here previously and was not excited. This time I was very excited and enjoiyed fine food, service and hospitality. The food was well-prepared and tasty, in fact downright creative: Calif-cuisine combined with French and Syrian influences. All based on using fine raw materials. Wine friendly. Worth a visit.

First, Sam. Sam has to be the most gracious owner/host in America. Will remember you forever. Had Sam's trio of Hummus, Taboule and Baba ganoush to start. Excellent ! One of my friends is vegetarian and she had the Vegetarian Crepes which we all tasted and agreed were among the best we ever tasted. My other friend had the Braised... More

We loved this restaurant, the food was good and the service exceptional. A little pricey but overall worth it. The portions are big and well presented, no complaints. One thing to be aware, of is that "fries" are actually chunky chips. Really liked this place and the long chat about celebrities that have visited and the low down on LA.
