This restaurant is actually north of the beaten path, and a little tricky to find, but worth it. It has dark wood paneling & draperies, and is smaller than we expected. The drive & the menu were worth it....we enjoyed the beet salad, the wild mushroom salad, vegetarian crepes, salmon, mediterranean seafood soup and the sea bass special. Worth a... More

First time visitor to this gem of a spot on W Channel in Santa Monica, CA. Must have driven by it 100 times and never noticed the place. Early dinner for two and could not have had better food or service along with an excellent wine list. Super Tuscan lovers beware....you are going to spend some money and that's OK.... More

I dined at Sam's by the Beach with my boyfriend of almost 3 years on January 2, 2016. We were slightly late for our 7pm reservation but the staff were very kind. We were seated immediately. The light was dim, the couches were comfortable and the music just the right volume. There were two other groups other than ourselves. My... More

We went with friends on a Thursday evening in early December and were rewarded with a quiet evening so we could easily carry on a conversation and enjoy the excellent food. The salads were remarkably fresh, the octopus was very tasty, and we enjoyed the fish of the day and the poussin special, all with a very nice Sancerre. The... More

Sam's does it right all the way and that's shown by the scrumptious food and super service by Sam himself. The restaurant is a bit tucked away so you kinda have to know about it beforehand. The menu is deep with varied specialities sure to please. You'll enjoy it! ...

Always wonderful food, creatively controlled by Sam himself. If you pass by the restaurant in the morning, you'll see Sam unloading his car with the fresh fish he just picked up downtown at the produce mart. That's why it always tastes so good. It's a place to find unusual foods - venison, Spanish mackerel, squid ink spaghetti, Cornish game hen,... More

We only had a couple of nights in Santa Monica and selected this based on its high reviews. I don't know how it got so high a review, as the price for the amount of food you get is small, and the actual food was okay but certainly nothing special.

Dear Anna, First of all Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Sam's. Second, I am sorry you didn't enjoy your meal. As I recall chatting with you at the time while you were tasting your friend Lamb Shank. With my experience in the business I have seen it many times, when a person changes it's... More

Three of us had starters...the beet salad was fine, the apple/fennel was okay, and the salad was a bit tart and flavorless. The lamb shank for the entree was the best dish of the night. Great fries, meat falling off the bone, no real vegetable to speak of. The corvina fish was (to me, and I haven't had this experience... More

This restaurant doesn't look much from the outside. But give it a go, you will not be disappointed. The manager welcomed us and had us seated in the middle of the restaurant. The waiter was polite, friendly and had a good humor. Having no knowledge of the wine from the list, we just picked one by the sort of grapes.... More
