Lively restaurant

We ate here as staying in Travelodge nearby. It was a busy lively place with a good menu selection. We ordered the sirloin steaks with mash and veg & what a juicy tasty steak and big. It came with a side salad. There were a couple of old guys playing Mexican tunes on the guitar which we liked... read more

Really poor service. Waiters kept reaching over our food to shake our beer bottles. Had to keep asking for service though. To top it off when we paid the check the waiter had the audacity to tell us the tip wasn't included. He swore he had earned one

Yeah yeah yeah, there's live music, strong margs, and amazing tres leches. But I come here for the carnitas 97% of the time. The other 2% I get the Chicken Mole, and 1% the house special Savanitas, which is flank steak in some madre's sauce that is not really mexican but really delicious. If you sit downstairs you may be... More

A great mexican place that I will go back to. Good size portions, great flavours and awsome Margaritha's. A great place to meet friends or just take a date or your family.

Two floors of authentic and tasty Mexican cuisine, with a super friendly staff! Our large group had just about one of every item on the menu, and they were all excellent. The enchiladas were the big hit, but the nachos, shrimp fajitas and tacos were also great. We had chips and guac to start - fresh and tasty - and... More

While the restaurant was very busy when we arrived, it emptied by around 9.30pm. Food was okay but not terribly tasty

I discovered this gem several years ago and wish I had known about it before. Great authentic Mexican dishes, incredible salsas and delicious margaritas that are priced well! It's a local favorite, and for good reason!

Ate here whilst staying in Santa Monica and enjoyed authentic Mexican cuisine in a great atmosphere. Food was reasonably priced but drinks were slightly expensive. All in all would definately recommend if staying in this vicinity.

I recall Lares in the 70s ... not I know that is more than 20 years ago ... but it had the world's best carnitas ... crispy on the outside ... juicy and succulent within. But, alas, not my recent visit experience. They were soft and 'characterless'. Nonetheless, Lares is 'authentic', warm and welcoming.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
