Truly Outstanding

Tar and Roses is an outstanding restaurant. The only thing I didn't like about it was the holding pen they put you in while you wait for a table (even if you have a reservation). The decor is fine, the service is fine (typical LA young male waitstaff), but the food is inventive and delicious. We... read more

On this visit my wife and I went with a number of small bites mainly because we could not make up or minds on what to order. The lamb belly was outrageous as well as the lamb tartar. Love their wine list, however on this trip I took my own wine and paid the corkage. They were more than happy... More

Delicious food; the presentation of the Red Snapper was unbelievably good. Server helped me decide on a very tasty white wine by the glass. Be advised it is noisy towards the back where the food is ordered on directions from the chef. Valet parking available. Very popular need reservations.

This is the restaurant you would go back to again and again if it was in your neighborhood. Great ambience, lively but you can still hear your dinner companions, and excellent service. We got off to a great start with the wine list and a beautiful Ridge zinfandel. There's a nice Asian fusion going on with the menu. The edamame... More

Wonderful ambiance, interesting menu choices- ex. lamb belly, and brussel sprouts with pancetta, chestnuts and mustard- very well prepared.

This is probably the finest restaurant in Santa Monica, and I got here on a fluke. Birthday party for a relative with 30 people, and the most amazing food all night. The appetizers were spectacular, ribs, octopus, artichokes, lamb belly, dumplings, sashimi everything different, everything with its own subtle or explosive taste . I had the Skirt Steak as an... From the beginning when the wait staff found us a table on a busy Friday night after we showed up without a reservation, Tar and Roses did not miss a beat with either the service or the delicious food. We had 2 "snacks", 2 small plates and 2 vegetable sides. All dishes were spot on, servings were generous without being... More

On the recommendation of celebrity chef and Chopped judge Aaron Sanchez I gave Tar & Roses a try a couple nights ago. Well, I have new favorite restaurant not only in Santa Monica but pretty much anywhere. This is a small plate place where the emphasis is firmly on the food. The atmosphere is stylish and comfortable but there are... More

Excellent food and an interesting menu. Staff were super friendly and informative. If you don't have a booking they will accommodate you at the counter (which is perfect, for two people). Loved the ambience of this special restaurant.
