This is a spectacular restaurant! Unique and delicious food. Creative farm to table/ sustainable ingredients; excellent wine selections; knowledgeable waitress and serving staff; very cool atmosphere. We were in the Santa Monica area for a wedding and had this recommended by our B & B. Our examination on this and other review sites suggested this would be a real gem.... More

Busy and popular place! We really enjoyed our visit here. The atmosphere is good and the food original. There are entrees on the menu but the thing to do is to select small plates and share. It makes me think of an American version of Spanish tapas. Really impressed with the waitress who helped us through the menu options and... More

Tar and Roses is a first class restaurant in all respects especially if you're in Santa Monica. It is even sufficiently good to fight the traffic from points east. Creative and excellently prepared food with a fast and capable service staff. Every time we eat at Tar and Roses we find ourselves saying, "why don't we come back here more... More

I booked this in advance as we only had one night in Santa Monica and I didn't want to miss out. The restaurant I would go back in a heart beat. The ambiance here set the scene very nicely. It's located up the main rd of Santa Monica which meant we could walk. Everything was fantastic- from the wine, the... More

Tar & Roses is frequently busy, but that doesn't get in the way of having a very personal dining experience. Honestly, I have never sat at a table here, because I feel that sitting at the bar, close to the charcuterie station is entertaining, educational and fun. This is not an expensive restaurant, but the food belies this. It is... More

excellent restaurant, really very good, we had the joint ribeye and it was fantastic; it is a little way back from the main tourist strip so you need to know where you are going but it is very much worth it

I scheduled a work dinner at Tar and Roses after reading all of the excellent reviews. We were seated in the back room with the open ceiling - the weather was perfect! The food was delicious. We all loved the oxtail dumplings and the amazing vegetables. The carrots were perfect and the Jerusalem artichokes were amazing. The service was spot... More

This place wasn't on our radar screen at all but we sure had a fun dinner. Food was terrific, staff helpful and ambience buzzing. Would go back again next time there. Even bought the T shirt.

One of the best meals we've had in a while. Fabulous choice of food, from apps to small plates through to entrees. We went the apps and small plates route so that we could try everything and we did. Everything was excellent.... too much to list here. The wine list was good, service impeccable and absolutely no rush to finish... More
