Japanese American Fusion at its best

Umami Burger deserves a pat on the back for their simple menu that focuses on what they do best, umami burgers. They make wonderfully savory burgers with simple but sophisticated flavors. The interior has a very relaxing yet hip feel to it, with a very nice waiting staff. When you are there order... read more

Was somewhat disappointed at first, our friend(s) chose this place for our one and only eve in LA. I anticipated treating them to a "more upper end" type cuisine, not a just a burger. Well...these aren't just any burgers! What a pleasant surprise!! I've had quite a few different versions of really, really good burgers in my time...but these were... More

Had a delicious lunch here. The tuna burger was perfectly seasoned and spiced. The cheesy fries are super good too. A must have. Will always come back.

Man, we were recommended to go here by friends and boy was a good choice. We had the truffle burger (and fries), a manly burger (and sweet potato fries) and some brews. Every single thing we had was great. We shared with friends and overall had a great time. I have had some good burgers (Rays Hell Burger in Arlington,... More

We were told by our friend Tom "If you only eat in one restaurant in Santa Monica you gotta make it Umami". I will never underestimate Tom ever again. It don't look like much and was a bit hard to find but the burgers here are incredible. I ordered a Sunny side cause the man on the table next to... More

Feeling carnivorous tonight, I sought out a place that could dish out a good burger, and reviews led to me Umami. I actually tried to hit the Hermosa location first, but after an exercise in frustration seeking a parking space, opted for the Santa Monica one 14 miles up the yellow brick 405. There was a serious communication problem between... More

First time in a Umami Burger. Everything was excellent. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Three of us had three different burgers and all were great. Also try the pickle platter very interesting. They are opening in Williamsburg Brooklyn this year and I can't wait.

We previously ate at the Hermosa Beach location, and found that the food in Santa Monica is just as delicious. We had the Umami Burger, the Cali and the Truffle burger along with the Truffle fries. All tasted great and worth a return visit. The front entrance is not on the corner but half a block down the street.

Absolute Deliciousness! Truffle Burger with Truffle Fries. 5 out of 5. Hands down, awesome, juicy and delicious burger. Not over dressed and the truffle flavor was not overpowering... all sandwiched between a delicious seedless bun (i hate sesame seeds on my burger bun). LOVE! Service: AWESOME! They were super busy on a Friday night and waiter did not rush us... More

We were all excited to try umami burger after a fun day of exploring! We had the original umami burger, the sunnyside burger, and the manly burger. They were all delicious. The burgers were juicy and cooked beautifully. The umami ketchup that comes with the fries is delicious. We also had the UFO dessert- a deep fried oatmeal cookie sandwich-... More

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
