Fun Japanese-style bar with good (not GREAT) food

Looking for a fun evening of drinks with friends and in the "mood" for somewhere you can eat a little to a lot in tapas style sizes? Japanese robatayaki is NOT high end cuisine but rather intended to go along with some good old fashioned carousing. This is Santa Monica (near the beach no less) so... read more

Their happy hour specials were reasonably priced and their food was exceptional. I just wish that the staff was more on top of us as it took me 15 min to order another drink

Went here with my two daughters and we've all been raving about this place ever since. Excellent sushi and meat skewers are so good. After 3 weeks in the states this is still probably the best meal we've eaten. The only bad thing was we went there on the last night of our stay in Santa Monica so we couldn't... More

Our primary interest was sushi, but we didn't realize until we were seated that this establishment primarily concentrated on skewers of food cooked over super-high heat. Guests can also order from the sushi menu of the adjacent sushi restaurant, which is all really one big restaurant. The manager suggested two different robata selections one at a time, which was good... More

After help from the young lady making reservations we decided to eat in here and not Sushi Roku. You are able to order from both menus here. The wait staff were busy but always took care of us, including the manager. We tried too many things to mention all of them. Everything was great!

I've been at Robata a couple of times already. I must say the food is good, we'll prepared and very high quality. I always enjoy going there because there is a variety of options, from sushi to fried rice to grilled meat. Both times I do get a bit negatively surprised when I get the bill but then everything is... More

Makes a change from the Pizza & Burgers and large portions we have become accustomed to during our LA stay! Fresh delicious authentic Japanese with great sushi and skewers. Nice cocktails also. Lovely sitting outside in between the heaters! Fantastic, attentive staff. Tip: Happy Hour Menu is not as good as the regular menu! The drinks are weaker and sushi... More

This place can be pretty expensive off of happy hour, but if you go during, you can select from a number of skewers and get 3 for 5 dollars.! My three favorite combo is the bacon wrapped cherry tomatoes, the Tarragon shrimp are awesome, and The Mushrooms are great. I've always gotten a seat at the bar during happy hour... More

We had sushi and other side dishes and me and my gf were very satisfied. Especially the sushi was great! The other dishes were fine, but not super. When you be there between 4 and 7 they also have really good prices (happy hour)

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
