Always make my Husband Stop

We try to make time to stop by here when we are traveling the California coast. Good burgers and close to downtown. Nice to be able to get a good meal and take a walk when you are finished. Parking is a bit of a bear, but not horrible. Can be crowded, but I would say worth the wait!

After enjoying getting lost in my mind in Big Basin Redwoods State Park, we magically ended here to satisfy our munchies! The1/2 pound ($1.00 upgrade) is the best burger in Santa Cruz; added wedge fries were a treat. My lover's Portobello sandwich was the best ever (no magic mushrooms here); but that's OK because we have edibles for dessert! Parking... More

Horrible food, over cooked sandwich bun. Sliced tri tip too thick to eat without a knife. No flavor to meat. Mint shake was sliding off sides of glass onto table. Waitress never cleaned up the spill. Placed my food plate on the mess. I'll never recommend or go back.

Place was pretty crowded and we had to wait awhile. Was very hard to get a drink (beer and wine only) from the super small and crowded bar. Server focus was on folks seated at bar, not people waiting for tables. Lost revenue opportunity. Hint: There is a little Chinese restaurant in a shared hallway with insanely cheap beer prices... I love the atmosphere of the place and it really complemented the delicious food! The staff was super helpful in making recommendations and led me to The Hell Burger with garlic parmesan fries. Those two items with a local IPA and I was in heaven. Had a solo meal at the bar and the staff was cool and chatted with... More

We were looking for an easy place to eat something and we found the Surfrider Cafe thanks to tripadvisor. The good reviews were absolutely sincere: we had two awesome hamburgers, perfectly cooked and with a delicious side of fries. If you are in Santa Cruz, don't miss the chance to eat here!

What a great find! I'm not gonna write a lengthy review of the Surfrider, but what I will say is the burgers are great, the service awesome and they have Kolsch on tap. The last time I had Kolsch on tap was at the Kolsch Bierhaus in Cologne Germany. Kudos to Surfrider! Best Burger joint in Santa Cruz.

These burgers are really really good. They might be great burgers---sure there are better somewhere, but not in Santa Cruz! Great bun and a burger cooked to order. Killer skinny fries with lotsa pepper and salt. This is how a burger and fries should taste. Pleasant food servers, surfie photos and casual atmosphere. My food arrived quickly. Scurvy bathroom requiring... More

The bun on the burgers is fantastic. A sour dough bun that holds the juices and ingredients in place so they don't drip all over. The burgers and vegan burgers were average - you could get them anywhere. The vegan burger had no flavor and the hamburger was thin which was fine with me. The onion rings were large and... More

This is what a burger joint is supposed to be: no frills or pretensions, just a great selection of different kinds of burgers, in generous portions, made the way you want with great side dishes. I had just a basic cheeseburger (though they make it with cheddar, not the horrible/generic "American" stuff), with a side of onion rings, and that... More
