A touch of San Francisco dining, right here in little ol’ Santa Cruz

People had always asked me if I had ever been to Oswald, and I never had. They always told me that they thought that I would really like it. Restaurant Week in Santa Cruz is an excellent opportunity to dine out and try a new place, or one of your old favorites. About 40 restaurants offer a fixed... read more

Oswald had a very rough night Sunday, Dec. 13, due to server timing and order mix-ups. We still left a 20% tip and did not say anything at the time, for reasons I'll get into later, but after thinking about the amount we spent (more than $100 per person for three) and the fact that I had given a 4-star... We love to go to Oswald, sit in the bar area and get one of the best crafted drinks in town. We always split their wonderful burger and a caesar salad, and even though we have enjoyed other entrees like their fish and fried chicken, we like this combo so much we stick with it. The waitstaff is very friendly... More

We have dined at Oswald a few times in the past five years. It is consistently outstanding, from the excellent selection of spirits in the bar and the wine list to creative foods across the menu. Salads are interesting and creative (melon, string bean, endive, crab & avocado), and entrees offer inventive sides that accompany albacore tuna, halibut, chicken, duck... More

Good food but seemed more about the presentation than quantity. My halibut piece was tiny on top of a large pool of celery root sauce!! Very NOISEY in restaurant. If you are seeking a place to converse with friends, then I would recommend a different place.

One of the three partners has moved on and it shows. While the service was great, the food was a bit disappointing compared with other visits. I had the Caesar salad which is typically one of my favorites, however all you could taste was anchovy and I couldn't finish my salad. I then had the rib eye special. The steak... More

We were looking for a nice restaurant and not some fast food and were very lucky to find this one. The service was great, they have a large wine list, we chose the local salmon and rib-eye steak for dinner, both was perfect. We recommend to go their by taxi or uber as there are some strange people on the... More

Oswald offers a prix fixed menu on Wednesday nights which allows diners to enjoy a high end 3 course around the price of a regular main. Generous servings, this is not a cobbled together menu but rather a sampled selection of items on the regular menu list. Staff were excellent, there's a very good supporting wine list including some half... More

The food at Oswald is excellent, but the menu changes frequently based on what's fresh and available. This is a good thing—return visits let you try different food—but it makes it difficult to recommend particular dishes. Location is convenient to downtown, and there's plenty of parking in the garage next door. However, while the restaurant is cozy and decorated well,... More
