Had my birthday dinner at Oswalds. This restaurant never disappoints. Dinner was simple, but outstanding. Caesar salad followed by mussels in a saffron and sherry broth. Then came the foie gras which was fresh, sautéed to perfection and absolutely melted in your mouth. Main course was a super juicy and delicious burger with crumbled blue cheese. How can something so... More

We stumbled upon this restaurant one night and managed to get a seat at the bar. I would suggest to get a reservation if you can. They had a very good drink special and it seems that bartender enjoys coming up with new drinks. I had Chilean see bass which was cooked perfectly and went very well with the salad... More

We went here with friends, hoping to be able to enjoy a conversation while we dined. No such luck! The food is good, but nothing extraordinary. What IS extraordinary, though, is the noise level - off the charts! It took several minutes for us to decompress after leaving... and we couldn't wait to get out of there. There are many... More

One of our favorite meals since moving to Santa Cruz a year ago. We had the pork belly and crab salad appetizers; duck and lamb as entrees and a wonderful warm fig and walnut tart with house made ice cream as dessert. The service was impeccable and friendly. We will be back!

I had dinner with a group of 6 and very much enjoyed the service and the food. It was not extraordinary, but was very good, hence the 4 stars. For a starter, I had the Dungeness crab with avocado and greens. The portion was quite substantial...so much so that I shared with my companion who ordered the Abalone, which was... More

My friend took me here for dinner he'd been to Oswald's before and loved it. Sadly, our dinner this time (3 years later) was just average. And I hate to call it average because it's so close to being GREAT. We ordered the specials - calamari and pork belly (cooked three ways)...I'd heard about the fresh calamari here- so now... More

good service and good food is hard to come by in Santa Cruz but Oswalds does a great job. Brought a friend here who was visiting from Atlanta. Our waitress was very knowledgeable, friendly and honest. She told us what was the best and what wasn't. Every dish we ordered was great! It is a little pricey but you are... More

In a location known for attracting artisans in crafts and music, we were pleased to find artists in California Cuisine. Uniquely crafted cocktails like a Tequila & Celery Juice Martini (really good) started things off. I asked the charming waitress to please select my appetizer expand entree. The Braised Pork Belly with Tomatillo Sauce sent me into drug-free ecstasy. This... More

The food was amazing - rich mushroom soup, excellent lamb & halibut dishes, dessert was lovely. They have a versatile menu, friendly staff and excellent service! The ambience is nice, but the restaurant is quite loud when full which was the only downside. It's easier to talk when the tables start to empty.
