Good choice in Santa Cruz

Nice place for a Saturday lunch, the oysters were fresh good. The fish tacos were very good, the sand dab sandwich was excellent. The service was very slow and the server blamed the amount of people for it. Nice wine list.

We have a house in the area and loved Johnny's, then they had a chef and menu change and we stopped going. Now, a new chef and menu and we have had dinner there 3 times and LOVE it. Our favorite is the fish selection, you pick your fish, how you want it cooked, and the accompaniment. I had Mahi... More

Had dinner here a few years ago and it was so-so. Tried it again recently and was pleasantly surprised. The menu was very innovative and diverse. The sea bass was offered sauted, grilled or blackened. I chose blackened and it was perfect. The presentation was excellent with brown rice, edamame and a light bernase sauce. We were a party of... We had requested a window table with a harbor view and were graciously accommodated. Service was attentive, environment was busy, a little too noisy. My hubby started out with the ceviche, I had the artichoke Asiago soup- both very tasty and paired nicely with the Conundrum white. Got my entree I had the halibut, sautéed and served "Parisian"- goat cheese... More

Johnny's has a pretty view of the small Santa Cruz harbor. A bit pricey for the offering, but the food was good and the menu had something for everyone. Pay to park, but the fee was super cheap at fifty cents an hour. Gluten free items were marked on the menu and the waiter was attentive enough to caution us... More

We chose Johnny's on the recommendation of a friend and were very pleased. There is a nice view of the harbor and we were entertained by the crab fisherman unloading their catch. We enjoyed blackened Mahi-Mahi and sauteed scallops with the Parisian mashed potatoes as well as the Harborside and Caesar salads. The Mahi and scallops were prepared very well... More

the choice of fish is very good. The swordfish, ahi , and mahi maui was excellent. They cooked to perfection and the side dishes were very tasty. Nice view of the harbor. It is a small location, so don't be surprised if you have a wait. Have a drink and relax.

We went for Fri happy hour and the place was nearly empty, not a good sign when the restaurant down the road was full to bursting. $3 beers, but no local brews; $4 well drinks, martinis, margaritas, and wine. The happy hour menu was lacking in variety and did not even include a cup of chowder. I liked the barely... More

Chefs trio was amazing. The chef picked the sides to go with the fish trio. Flavors were wonderful. They have small desserts for $3 each and are made by the chef. I would definitely go back.
