Good food but iffy service

I have mixed feelings about my experience here. We had heard and read nothing but good things about this place so we were excited to try it. They seemed really busy, it was a Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation but were told we could be seated right away in the bar or in an enclosed... read more

Maybe I was just a tired traveler, but we decided to eat here based on a suggestion from the clerk at our nearby hotel. I should have used Tripadvisor, which I normally do, but did not and regretted it. We walked to this restaurant, which is within walking distance to the Best Western three blocks away. It was late (approximately... More

This really is a sleeper for Santa Cruz! Atmosphere is wonderful! Food is fantastic! Service was top of the line! Owner came over because she heard we were celebrating and she was just so sweet! At the end of dinner she bought us dessert! This was one of my top meals ever!

My favorite steak is a good thick New York. While it no longer seems to be on the regular menu, we had it as one of the specials the other night. It also came with potato, vegetable and salad, but I ordered and received a small caesar salad instead of the other sides. No extra charge for substitutions and our... More

Ate here on our trip to Santa Cruz. Excellent service and food was great. Ribs were the best my wife has had and the burger was full of flavor. The kids loved the mini corn dogs.

Santa Cruz is a hippie college town and not known for its fine dining. I had dinner at HQ and it was pretty good, not great, but perfectly acceptable. I ordered the ribs. They served a huge slab that was perfectly cooked with just enough crustiness to keep my interest. The sauce was no great shakes, however. The cole slaw... More

We recently tried this Santa Cruz Icon for the first time...I may have been at this place 30 years ago or so in another life. well, four of us came here for dinner a couple weeks ago and we all left sated and happy. Three had the ribs...one dry rubbed and one sauced....I liked the sauced ribs better and they... More

This is a really great place to eat. Food is fantastic. Service is good but keep in mind they can be busy. You may have to wait a bit, but well worth it.

Hindquarters is not that pretty but it serves up delicious meat! The slab of ribs on the Thursday night special is huge and priced right. Go to the bar for happy hour, bring your drinks to dinner. Everyone there is very friendly. They usually have a coupon on their website.

This place is definitely a bar that happens to serve beef, certainly not a steakhouse, although perhaps they have no pretensions to be the latter. Have been there twice in 6 months, and I give up: was disappointed both times. The service, from 20-something college kids, on both visits was very friendly and equally amateurish. Appetizer came before drinks (you... More
