Good food, great atmosphere

I'm no expert on Greek food, but I do live near the Mediterranean, and love that kind of cuisine -- fresh vegetable salads, salty cheese, pita bread, skewered meat, etc. So I'm always up for a Greek meal. I went there at the recommendation of the hotel front desk clerk. The owner/chef has decided to retire after working all his life. I say good for him. They were out of a lot of the food but one thing I did expect that wasn't on the menu was hummus. Since they were out of the dish I wanted I... More

I was raised on authentic Greek cooking, and I love it! Depending where in Greece you've the cuisine is regional, just like in Italy. Ignore the "not like Greece" comments. Most American Italian restaurants are nothing like restaurants in Italy. I had soup, pita, dolmathes and my husband wasn't hungry so just had spanakopita. What we ordered was delicious. I... More

After an extended trip to Greece, I miss the late night meals by the sea, enjoying calamari, tzatziki, tiropita or spanikopita, and Greek salad. When I'm longing to re-experience those times, I head to The Greek, conveniently open all afternoon and evening. The staff is friendly and the owner has been serving delicious Greek food here for decades. Many nights... More

Chicago has a substantial Greek community, and there are many excellent Greek restaurants in all price ranges. Having lived there for 42 years, I've eaten a lot of great Greek food, and love the cuisine. I've also had great Greek cooking around Long Beach, CA. "The Greek Authentic Cuisine" is anything but authentic. I ordered a gyros sandwich, expecting meat... More

Enjoyed our dinner. The food was excellently prepared and our waitress was brimming with personality and charm. Very good experience for our party of four.

I must admit it was my first Greek restaurant in the US, and I know it is less likely to find an authentic Greek place here than in Europe... But the tsatziki was so far from authentic, and instead of taramas a potato puree with garlic was served (never had this in a Greek place before)... But the lamb was... More

This menu is excellent. The home made pita bread was delicious and the starter salad was huge. My friends had the lamb special that was perfectly cooked. I sampled the chicken lemon soup which was superb, but I regretted not ordering the kabobs as they looked amazing as they were served to other tables. Not the cheapest great place, but... More

This menu goes above and beyond normal greek restaurants. No hummus to be found. Instead, many other appetizer and soup choices that were fantastic. Nicole had a cup of the chicken soup while I had a bowl of the lentil soup. They were both very good, mine was very thick and hearty, hers a bit runnier but certainly flavorful. We... More

Their prices were very high and I probably wouldn't return as a result. Especially since there are so many Greek restaurants near where we live in CA, though not many choices in Santa Cruz. But the food was good; we had the chicken & lamb kabobs, sausage appetizer, salads and a gyro. Parking was very limited so we had to... More
