Cajun cuisine outside of Louisiana

Always in search of a non-chain restaurant offering good food. Found this in Santa Barbara, which offered a variety of truly exceptional cajun cooking. The grits were so creamy, and the corn bread melts in your mouth. As for the Jambalya it was absolutely a taste treat.

We've always enjoyed the food, but they need to get the dogs on the patio under control. Today there was a little "zipper" going table to table yapping for handouts. The owner was just laughing. Makes for kind of a gross experience.

It's small, but it's worth the wait. Especially Sat or Sunday mornings. Great for hangovers or just hungry!

Our motel recommended Cajun Kitchen as a good place to have breakfast. Having only been in CA a few days, I'd already fallen in love with breakfast burritos and this place did an excellent one. Probably the best accolade I can give this place is that despite having many other options, we went back again on our only other day... More

We were recommended this place by a staff member in our hotel. The place looked small and simple. The menu looked like any other breakfast place. But when the order comes in you will be staring at the plate. Everything looked amazing and clearly made with love and attention to detail. Amazing food with great prices! Must try!

Whenever I'm in Santa Barbara, I stop by for breakfast at the Cajun Kitchen. The beignets with fruit are outragously good. I've had the California and regular eggs benedict and both are excellent. Pancakes are light and fluffy. Breakfast burrito and huevos rancheros are also very good. Home fries and hash browns are great. Service is attentive. They just updated... More

Well, Cajun Kitchen may not be a bit of New Orleans transplanted near the Pacific Ocean, but the restaurant does make a very good (slightly spicy) red beans and rice with Andouille sausage. Our daughter said her Po' Boy was very good. (It is huge.) The menu looked like it had many excellent choices and, based on the lines of... More

This is the best place to go in Santa Barbara for a late breakfast or a Sunday brunch, which explains why it's so popular with college kids and other hungover party goers. The shrimp and grits always makes me homesick and is the closest I can find to genuine southern food out here. Most everything I've tried is tasty and... More

And I was very happy that I ordered that French toast! Thickly-sliced bread (fresh, not stale), fried to perfection, topped with a big blob of butter and lots of syrup. Crisp bacon on the side. Absolutely yummy!
