My wife and I recently just got back from our honeymoon and were suffering from some post-wedding blues.... so we decided to go out to dinner in SB. W decided to make a reservation at Opal. When I called ahead they asked if it was a special occasion... I said no, we had just got back from our honeymoon. For... more

My husband and I loved Opal. He had salmon, I had duck. Both were great. The atmosphere was fun, service was terrific. The most memorable part of the evening, though, was the Dark Chocolate Jack Daniels Crème Brulee. Worth every calorie. more

We tried Opal on a recent trip to Santa Barbara. Our reception was very warm and accomodating, and the hostess gave us a terrific window table. The restaurant is stylish, with an inviting atmosphere. Our server was friendly but not terribly alert, and seemed unconcerned when my bf noted that his Captain Morgan and diet didn't taste like it usually... more

Location: State street, cool area, just one or two blocks up the street from main shopping area. Vibe: cool room, nice bar, and we ate at tables on sidewalk outside. Decor was a little trendier then typical bistro, but still casual. Service: friendly, well-informed Food: good, but not great food, we enjoyed what we had, although not as fresh or... more

We went to Opal on 9/5/09. Upon arrival, we were seated at one of the two window tables. We felt a bit like zoo animals for passer- bys, but luckily we dressed nicely that night. The menu was extensive, probably to the point of being overwhelming. There were four appetizer specials and about eight entree specials. All looked great, but... more

My girlfriend and I were traveling up the California coast for a couple of weeks of rest and relaxation, which included a stop-over in Santa Barbara. Because we were eating at the Ballard Inn one of the two nights we were in Santa Barbara, we decided not to go to Downey's because its menu resembled too much that of the... more

We're "regulars" at this restaurant and probably know the menu by heart. For a place with such sophisticated food, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, just what we want after a long flight home. We often entertain business visitors, people from overseas, or others whose food preferences we don't know because there's truly something for everyone on the menu. Vegetarians,... more

The special of the day was Shredded Phylo dough wrapped Mahi-Mahi with a cream, lime, and red curry sauce to die for. The chilli crusted filet mignon with truffle butter yukon potatoe, smoked mozzarella and pesto stuffed pasilla chle with roatsed garlic and wild mushroom zinfadel sauce was my dish. Wife and I switched plates half way as we usually... more
