Stella Mare’s is a Santa Barbara local’s favorite for lunch, brunch and dinner. French country recipes are offered with fresh fish, meats and poultry cooked on our wood-burning grill. Stella Mare's is perhaps one of the best examples of Santa Barbara style. Located between Montecito and Santa Barbara, this charming restaurant is housed in a historic landmark Victorian home, overlooking the Bird Refuge. The decor is French Provincial meets Santa Barbara style. The glass Greenhouse, with stunning views of the Bird Refuge, has cozy sofas, a fireplace, and a full service bar. “I'm so fortunate all over the world to find places that are very good that I can recommend, but I do have a short list of absolute musts. If you come anywhere near Santa Barbara, this is a must - Stella Mare’s, first of all, is so casual and homey. It's beautiful to look at, very relaxed atmosphere, and secondly the food is fantastic!” - Rachael Ray, Rachael’s Vacation Show - Food Network A bientot!

Odd location, but it works

Loved everything about the place. I would have given it a 4.5 star if I could. I rarely give 5s. We brought our dog and were given a great table in a private little alcove outside overlooking the lagoon, right next to the 'greenhouse'. Our waitress was great and upbeat. Made sure the dog had... read more

Stella Mare has had many transformations over the years. It keeps improving. The grilled vegetable salad has been a staple on the menu for years and never disappoints. I love the grilled salmon salad. Also, one of the best steak frites in town!

We enjoyed a lovely brunch with dear old friends. I had the mussels and my husband had the bouillabaisse. I thought the mussels had too much Pernod which overwhelmed their delicate flavor. Spouse liked his bouillabaisse a great deal. The setting is French country in a light and airy green house. Quite lovely.

On a sparkling clear day in Santa Barbara, there are few restaurants to rival the ambiance of Stella Mare, located opposite the Bird Sanctuary. The French country decor well-lit by windows all around, offers you a trip to Provence without the airfare. This is a special place for family celebrations or intimate tete-a-fetes (hopefully not in close proximity to the... More

Beautiful French ambience. Love to eat at this restaurant; however, this time I ordered the croque monsieur for lunch and found it just so-so. It didn't measure up to those in France. The bread didn't seem appropriate for the sandwich, and the sauce on top was tasteless. We will return for dinner, however, in the hopes that quality has not... More

We dined here in May on a Sunday night. Too cold to sit next to a window in the conservatory room and no real view in the dark across to the lake or to the parking lot so we relocated to a warmer location in another room with a fireplace. Nice atmosphere in a converted house. Food was well presented... More

Me and my girlfriend went there today without reservations and was lucky enough to get seated right away even tho it was packed and the waited said it was reservation only. I had the Moules frites(clams) and my gf took the cobb salad. The clams were probably the best ones I've tasted. After eating around 80% of the salad my... More

This is one of my favorite places for lunch - the location is lovely and peaceful, the house seating and the sunroom seating are both nice, though I like being by the fireplace on those cold days. The food for lunch is excellent -- lovely quiches and salads (esp. with a starter glass of champagne!). I've had the coq au... More

We love this restaurant. We were on our way back to L.A. and decided to stop here for their Saturday brunch. It is very conveniently located off the Cabrillo exit, and a quick right on Los Patos. I highly recommend the blue crab eggs benedict, with béarnaise sauce, rather than hollandaise, served on top of a homemade biscuit, rather than... More

We were shocked to find that a favorite of ours, Cafe del Sol, had been closed down, so we went farther down the street and found Stella Mare's bistro. It was larger than we had expected of a bistro, and a little more formal; however, it was nicely furnished and comprised a number of rooms, the best being the Conservatory/... More
