A true original

A must for those visiting Santa Barbara. Fantastic vibe with an eclectic mix of visitors. Live music, cold beer, and killer tri-tip sandwiches. Life is good!

This place is great fun for a destination dinner coupled with sight seeing on the drive up from Santa Barbara. OK the buildings ARE old but that is the historical charm. The food is good but probably gets an extra star from some people as compared to restuarants in the city because of quaintness or maybe because of a few... More

We stopped in here on friend's recommendations on our way to wine tasting. This a a 100+ year old stagecoach stop in the middle of the woods. Many of the buildings are original, and I liked the old pictures and historical background on the place. Food was good (omelettes and biscuits with gravy). Service was a bit off and slow,... More

My sister & her BF frequent this place & it embarrassed them to have raved over it when we got such poor service. Hansjorg definitely did NOT want to be there. We had to ask other servers for refills on our coffee & iced tea as he absented himself after taking our order and never voluntarily returned. However, the Tavern... More

The food was good, the ambiance fun and unique. The service was above average. The price was reasonable. Everyone who ordered the ribs loved them.

After visiting some wineries in the Santa Maria valley, this place was recommended for the best tri-tip EVER, and it was true. All the food was amazing here and the place is very old school, with a nice middle of the woods vibe. Just cannot wait to go back and wish it were closer to where we live!

Always fun to visit here. Old, original bar. Short menu is available, but this has always been a cocktail stop for us. Lots of history! Grounds are interesting. If you come on a weekend, parking could be an issue. Drinks were fine; service was so-so.

The building appears to have been knocked together from scrap wood 100 years ago. The bar is small and seems like it should have a gathering of locals, but in fact the customers were a cosmopolitan group. The servers are absolutely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed reading the menu and would like to return to sample it - but sadly... More

Tucked away, giving no concern to anything other than the beauty they've always been..... This historic landmark has not only class, seclusion, and taste, but excellent food. Get here and enjoy. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you to the server @ coffee/Danish when we asked "what else should we see besides the museum, Lutheran Church, and mission?" She recommended and gave directions to this amazing and wonderful tavern. Beer and fries were all we had time and tummy-room for, but the beer selection was excellent and the fries fresh and hot. We wished we'd come... More
