Ranked #5 of 440 restaurants in Santa Barbara
Certificate of Excellence 2014
Cuisines: Mexican
Dining options: Breakfast/Brunch, Late Night
Description: Surprised not to see this on your web site - many people (myself included) consider it the best Mexican Food in Santa Barbara. Service also excellent, at least when they are not crowded, which the often are! Just down the street from another outstanding (but simpler) Mexican Restaurant, La Super-Rica Taqueria.

It's where you can end up if the line at the Super Rica is too long. You won't be disappointed, however, beware of the man standing at the counter who is there to "help you order." He is a very good sales man and when he jokes about how everything is delicious and just order it, he isn't kidding, but... More

The restaurant is off the main shopping/dining area in Santa Barbara and you really need to know it, but it is worth a detour! Excellent food and very friendly staff. You cannot make a reservation. You order at the counter and then get assigned a table. So it is very informal, busy, chaotic and not the right place if you... More

In my 50 years of eating in Mexican restaurants in this country and in Mexico, this restaurant was among the top 5 (the others: Frontera in Chicago, Lulu's and Rebecca's (years to decades ago) in Los Angeles, and (last year but not this year) Super-Rica in Santa Barbara. The enchiladas suizas we ordered were literally amazing--the flavors !!!. And the... More

Their food is fantastic, better than any mexican food we've had in AZ which really shocked us. It seems very popular as the line went WAY out the door. You order at a front counter and then they bring the food to your table which is ok but with lines of people waiting and their format for ordering, the place... More

Food was fresh & tasty. The various salsas/sauces was the best part, we had fun trying them all and picking our favorite. Portions were large and perfect to share.

I am reviewing Los Agaves on upper De La Vina, tho I've been to both locations. What I like about this restaurant is its very different menu and its many specials. The Chiles Norteno, which is 2 poblano chiles stuffed open-faced w Shirmp and Cheese and covered w/chipotle sauce is excellent, and a huge portion w/rice and house salad w/mango... More

PARKING ======== Street. AMBIANCE ========= Certainly did not care for their "cleaner supplies" smell upon entry. Nice setting inside. FOOD ===== AGAVES ENCHILADAS (MOST POPULAR) - $12.50 Fresh halibut & shrimp, red pepper & onions, topped with chipotle sauce, rice & salad with a mango dressing was indeed very good. That sauce was a bit too rich for my personal... More

Los Agaves is my favorite Mexican joint in Santa Barbara. I am a taco guy and the variety that they have on a daily basis is astounding. Each time I went in, there was something on the special board that caught my eye. My personal favorite were the salmon tacos-sounds kind of odd, but they were so flavorful I couldn't... More

Los Agaves is a cosy, bustling restaurant, has an extensive menu of well-priced, familiar dishes, a fabulous selection of help-yourself salsas and the portions are generous. These are the sorts of boxes people like to tick so I get the high regard in which Los Agaves is held. And the impressive TripAdvisor ranking. But the food is just a marginally... More

Really good Mexican food. Large portions with plenty of chips and a salsa bar. YUM. We will be back.
