Very small space with creative dishes to please

Memorable meal starting with field greens with beets and cheese, butternut squash soup, really fresh sole perfectly prepared and ending with chocolate marquis. First time eating Ethiopian food and so glad we finally did. We'd been talking about Petit Valentin's Sunday ethnic lunches featuring the Mrs.' native cuisine. What fun trying the combo dishes with two vegetable sides and one meat. We ate every bite of the spicy chicken with: mushrooms and collard greens, and the sautéed fish (sole) with: potatoes, carrots &... More

We have been here 3 times over a period of 3 years. It is a must if you are spending a few days in Santa Barbara. Wonderful cuisine which is a fusion of France and California. It is a real treat and a welcome break from the standard fare elsewhere. If you are really adventurous you can sample Ethiopian cuisine... More

I don't normally go to French restaurants, which tend to be pricey and pretentious. But that's not the case with Le Petit Valentien, maybe because with dishes like spinach and feta crepes, it's French-inspired eclectic rather than haute cuisine. The food was fresh and nicely presented. (The only complaint was an excess of olive oil in the risotto.) Charming atmosphere... More

Hadn't been back to this restaurant in a couple of years. That was a mistake for us as living in Santa Barbara it is easy to get in the groove of one's regular 5-10 restaurants and Petit Valentien had unfortunately fallen off the radar. We have been missing out! Our evening was a weekday off-night and not busy with service... More

We were looking for a place to eat and came across this restaurant. It was the first Thursday of the month in Santa Barbara and downtown was very busy. After looking at a number of restaurants we decided to walk in and try this one. We sat at the bar because it was so busy. We had a cheese plate... More

This restaurant is in an inner courtyard. There are tables outside and a big open window if seated inside. There are other restaurants and shops along the walkway giving the feel of an old world village.

Just off State Street in downtown Santa Barbara is a gem of a French bistro. Only a few tables, very French in feeling, in menu, and in wine list. It's great for a leisurely lunch, a pleasant and romantic dinner, or a place to meet friennds.
