Who would have thought that in an area of inexpensive motels there would be such an exceptional restaurant. Diverse menu, good service, great food, yummy dessert and reasonable priced wine list.

We stayed one evening in San Simeon and were not sure, where to go for dinner. All TripAdvisor comments were not really motivating in that small area. Finally we decided to go to Manta Rey. Everyone had somethig different - from swordfish via pasta to the filet mignon. We enjoied our dinner very much - everthing was wonderful and tasted... More

This restaurant was written up to be excellent but it failed in many respects. Each item on the menu sounded wonderful, but when it was brought to the table, it was disappointing. The bread and butter were very good to start with. I ordered the Sea Bass and while the presentation was nice, the flavor and seasonings left a lot... More

We ate while staying at a near by hotel. The restaurant is small and although it was nice and cool outside the inside was hot. They had the door open and we fought a fly our entire dinner. The food was good and plenty of it.

The food was pricey and okay. The waitress said it would be a 25 minute wait but ended up being 45 minutes. I was so hungry. The place was small and there was a big family that took two big tables and we conversing for a long time after their meals were done so people had to wait for tables.... More

We went here after a visiting Hears Castle and its one of the only places that was open and was full of people, thats always a great sign. This was 5 star dining at an incredible price. We had no idea what we were in for, all we wanted was some food before bed, we ended up getting the royal... More

The ambiance was romantic with flamenco guitar music and fresh roses at the table. Excellent fresh baked bread let us know this place was going to be great. The food was excellent.

For dinner the first night we went to Manta Rey Restaurant (9240 Castillo Dr., San Simeon, CA 93452, tel. 805-924-1032, e-mail:mantaraeysansimeon@yahoo.com). It had a nice room. There was one server for all of the tables with one helper. The service was less than perfect. We started with the Morro Bay oysters and they were delicious—the right size, the right texture... More

Very popular restaurant but worth the wait, food was lovely, staff were friendly and professional, we felt the menu was a little pricey in places but would love to go again

After a wonderful day driving through the big sur we had the pleasant surprise of finding great seafood and fish at a good price (if you stay in the hotel you even get 10% off). The fish and clam chowder I can recommend.
