Spiedo across from Draeger's

Poor service is you are a lone diner. Loudness at the bar detracts from the nearby dining room experience. The food is okay, but nothing to write home about. I actually miss Pasta Primavera that closed recently. Their food was much better than Spiedo. Go figure.

We happened to be downtown San Mateo with our son, his wife, our grandson, and our dog. There are not many place that can accommodate all possibilities and needs but Spiedo did. The service was splendid, their patience with our needs was immeasurable, and the food was hot and delicious. This is certainly worth a return trip.

We were wandering around San Mateo. A couple sitting at this restaurant's outdoor seating volunteered that the food was great and that they were regulars. We must have different definitions of great. One of the nightly specials was Shrimp Pizza. Sounded interesting. What they brought out was a soupy mess. It was not edible. The waiter was clearly accustomed to... More

My wife and I wanted to eat were the local eat. And to our surprise ran across Spiedo. The food and service was excellent. The price was very reasonable. You must try the bruschetti.

I could get better Italian food lots of places for half the cost. Lovely setting, both indoor and out. We had a good time there with friends, but I'd look around for better value if I wanted Italian food in San Mateo.

Looking for some place for early dinner stopped here. Restaurant was almost empty made me wonder about this place? I don't have to wonder next time . Service was fast food was well prepared and value was there also. Don't know if they were busy how it would be but on a early Thursday evening I would not hesitate to... More

I visited this restaurant with a friend. We were staying at a nearby hotel and were flying back to the New York area the following day after 2 weeks in California. We picked this restaurant because it was in the section of downtown San Mateo that is filled with restaurants. It looked more like a place frequented by the locals... More

Two couples, all had something different and everybody liked it. Interior must be from the turn of the century (1899-1900). We had fun!

We went there for Valentine's day. They had a different menu than their usual. The inside was dark, unfriendly, uninviting, the waiters seem to have come from the karate class, in a big hurry, no manners, inattentive. The food was not good but most importantly we felt like we were being whipped thru the meal. Never again.

Spiedo's is one of the upscale restaurants in our little town, and it has had some criticism of late. But I can say that we had a great experience there last weekend. I had out of town relatives visiting and all counted there were 11 of us with three children under age 8. I called on a Monday and they... More
