Excellent food and definitely a few steps up from downstairs. Completely worth the extra $$. Sitting at the bar is fun because you can watch as your food is being prepared.

Literally a step up from the fish market because it is upstairs. It offers a quieter and more intimate atmosphere. You can sit at the counter by the grill and watch the chiefs cook if you like. Top of the Market has a great variety of fish to choose from.

I wouldn't call this a destination restaurant. Or even a 4 out of 5 star restaurant. The food was good, lobster tail for me. It was quite large and a very reasonable price. The oysters were small and nothing outrageous, but considering where this place is, not restaurant row, it was enjoyable. If you find yourself nearby, this upstairs restaurant... More

Located on the second floor of the Fish Market is the latest stab at a good, upscale seafood restaurant. For those of you who have "experienced" the Fish Market, this is definitely a step up (literally and figuratively). One enters the Fish Market restaurant and waltzes past the lines and noise to travel up one flight of stairs to another... More

I took a friend here tonight who was just in town and wanted seafood. I live in the City but she was staying at a hotel near the airport and it seemed to far to drive to the city and back. Found this on Open Table...had been to the Fish Market before but not their more "high end" dining location.... More

The food is fresh, well prepared and tasty. The meat dishes are even delicious. The service is attentive. One of the best in San Mateo.

Had a very pleasant surprise when a client from S San Fran selected this restaurant in San Mateo. Never having visited this town, I was a bit skeptical of a restaurant on top of an active fish market. We were all very pleased by the selection of fresh seafood and the skill in preparing it simply and deliciously, It is... More

I was travelling alone on business and after reading the reviews decided to try The Fish Market. Apparently this is two restaurants in one. Upstairs is a business oriented restaurant, and downstairs is more of a casual "hands on" type of seafood place. The food was well cooked and portions were of a good size. I sat at the oyster...
