Good seafood option in San Mateo

My wife and I met another couple for dinner at The Fish Market, and with a wait there, we opted to go upstairs to Top of the Market. We ordered 3 soups (clam chowder), 2 kid meals, Canadian Lingcod with rice and roasted vegetables and Pacific Ono with au gratin potatoes and roasted vegetables. The interior of the "restaurant" is cheap in comparison to the food prices and not very inviting. Roasted Vegetables consists of mainly broccoli and zucchini. inside the chowder were pieces which could easily be... More

Views are great and our tuna poke salad was a hit. My entree of linguini and seafood was overpowered by too many onions and garlic for my taste. It ruined the delicate flavor of the scallops and crab which should be enhanced not covered up. Fried calamari had no flavor. My associates said they enjoyed their meals however. Our server... More

I have been to this very pleasant lovely small seafood restaurant before. I had always enjoyed the experience. The place is very pleasant intimate and relaxing. The services has always been excellent. However the food never made enough impression, neither memorably delicious, nor outrageously horrible. We decided to return to the Top of the Market for a family get together... More

I visited with two colleagues for an early evening meal. We hadn't reserved but were quickly seated in a booth overlooking the lagoon. I chose the harpooned Catalina swordfish which was delicious >> try it! A nice meal, washed down with chilled white wine followed by a dessert.

Hard to realize it is a different restaurant within a restaurant than The Fish Market - but both are wonderful and delicious food.

I did a business dinner here and really enjoyed my experience. The restaurant has a great view overlooking the water and the service was very nice. I enjoyed the crab cocktail but mostly enjoyed the seafood stew. The seafood stew contained a wide variety of all kinds of seafood: octopus, fish, shrimp, scallops, calamari, clams, and even muscles. It is... More

We have not been here for many years so I was concerned that the quality may have suffered over time. To my delight, the food and service were top notch and the terrific seafood selections are still as good as ever. We enjoyed the outlook over the canal and had a great meal. I worked in this area 20 years... More

The atmosphere is very nice in the restaurant and the food was all pretty good, although there are some real challenges with service. First off they did not have our reservation. I know this was made. It didn't matter because they fit us in without much fuss. We were in a medium sized group and I was entertaining customers. Everyone... More
