Phil's is a great BBQ place. Whether it is the Broham (Pork), El Toro (Tri-tip), Chicken or Ribs (Pork and Beef), it does not disappoint. While some might think that BBQ is all about the sauce, it is really all about the smoke. The meat here has a smoke flavor that permeates through the meat. The sauce compliments the meat... More

ok if you never have had real southern bbq, but trendy, big portions may make up for it. tri tip-for bbq? see what I mean, no brisket. cole slaw good, but not on top of pulled porch. good onion reings, avoid at all costs the potato salad-yuk. good service, but be warned, if you want better real bbq try Dickey's.... Was there during the San Marcos fire. A perfect place to relax for a little while after a rough couple of days. I am not a bbq connoisseur so I will not make any comparisons. Well thought out restaurant with great service and food. Loved the food "tweaks" not the same old same old - better. I'll be back.

The atmosphere is casual, the way you would expect a BBQ place to be. They have perfected the cuisine and the method of accommodating lots of customers in a very streamlined fashion. Its just good food and very tasty. Not sure what else to say about it. They have a good range of BBQ menu items. Just go there knowing... More

I have been here several times. It is usually very busy but they do a good job of getting people through the line, seated and served. It is somewhat pricey for bbq but it is popular and was on the man vs food show. My son loves the pulled pork. But I wouldn't say its anywhere near the best bbq... More

First, the service was great. Greeted by the manager. Order taker was patient. Food came out at fast. Now for the average part. The food, the sauce was to sweet. The beans were more Mexican then baked. Horseradish in the coleslaw gave the slaw a strange taste. The price was on the upper end of reasonable. For the cost of... More

Not sure what all the hype is about. Ordered the try tip sandwich, cole slaw, beans, baked potato and fries. I found the BBQ sauce to be too peppery. Ate about 4 bits of everything. Nothing special. Big, noisy, crowded disappointment.

Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Sorry you were disappointed with your experience here. When you were in, did you let any staff members know you weren't happy? We like to take care of all issues while you're still in the restaurant so we can make it right! :) If the sauce is too... More

We don't get to this area very often, but when we do my husband always puts Phil's on our To Do list. The servings are generous, the service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. Pane most important, the food is consistently good! What more can you ask for?

Yes, there will be traffic and noise at the dinner hour but well worth it. Our first time at the San Marcos location and we were not disappointed. Excellent tri-tip and outstanding onion rings, and the half rack dinner is more than enough for one person. It's a great value menu and this location is well managed, efficient and very... More
