Description: Gennaro's Grill & Garden is located in a delightful old Victorian setting. The cuisine is classic Northern Italian that includes fresh seafood and vegetarian dishes. All our pastas are homemade and our breads and desserts are prepared in our kitchen daily. We have an extensive wine list chosen with passionate devotion that stems from Gennaro's extensive experience as the Chief Wine Stewart on cruise lines. We also have a full bar where Happy Hour occurs Monday-Thursday from 4:30 to 7:00 pm. Gennaro is an experienced and renowned restaurateur, and former owner of Benvenuti Ristorante enjoyed by many SLO residents for 14 years. His restaurant was voted "One of the best Italian Restaurants in America" by Veronelli Publishing. Gennaro's Grill & Garden ~ a delightful environment where the food is robust, authentically classic and alive with fresh taste. Whatever the occasion, Gennaro's Grill & Garden is the place!

Charming century old home. Great service. You don't feel rushed. Great Mediterranean-Cuban food. Try the osso bucco or one of the fresh fish dishes. Great wine list. Lunch has reasonable choices in the $10-15 range. Dinner is more expensive, but not out of the ordinary for the food, ambiance and friendly service. Nice desserts, too.

This was a delightful experience. The owner came by and told us a little about the restaurant and himself and was a nice person. The real hero however was our waiter, Carlos. He was such an attentive, deligfhtful, and funny person. His assistant, Francisco I think was very nice too. And the food - was as good as anywhere if not... More

This restaurant occupies a lovely old home in downtown San Luis Obispo and we were eager to try it. There was only one other couple in the place, but it was early. The waiter and busboy were attentive and we anticipated a good meal. The beet salad was good and the bread housemade (I think.) Sorry to say the entrees... More

Hello: We want to first thank you for the kind comments you did make in your recent review of Gennaro’s Grill & Garden. We are happy you liked our Old Victorian built in 1904. Yes, the bread, the pastas and our desserts are all created on premises, with the exception of the ice cream. One of our clients, on the... More

We were a group of 7 adults including an older adult with some hearing issues and place is quiet enough for her to hear well. Housed in a beautiful old 1900's house, lots of charm. Food is not innovative, but is good quality northern Italian, cooked very well. They were willing to make/modify dishes to our liking. White tablecloths may... More

Excellent food. Extensive menu and wine list. Perfect service. Beautiful old Victorian home. Every course was timed to appear at the table just a few minutes after the previous one had been cleared. Very friendly staff. We'll definitely be back.

Had a quiet lunch here with a friend. Our first time, and we will be back soon. The lunch menu offered salads and sandwiches, but also there was a nice selection of hot dishes. My friend had their freshly ground lamb burger on a homemade roll. She thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a delicious pasta dish with sausage and peppers.... More

Friends introduced us to this restaurant. The owner met us and seated us by the fireplace. We started with a Cesar salad which was the best I've had in many many years. The entries were varied and all were delicious. Great seafood dishes well prepared with fresh ingredients and a nice presentation. I had the quail and risotto just to... More

We dined here recently as part of a fairly large party. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere (converted old house) and the waiter was more than excellent. Carlos handled our group (14 people) better than any one I've ever seen. Everything was served at the same time and hot. Now for the food. I had the Caesar salad, overpriced for... More

Gennaro's is my go-to restaurant in SLO! I guess you could say that I'm a regular. It's owned by a real person (named Gennaro!), rather than by some big restaurant conglomerate, and when you walk in the door, you can feel the difference. Gennaro is usually the first person to warmly greet you, and since his restaurant is located in... More
