The best Indian restaurant ever. The owners are amazing and care for their customers. Food is made to a very high quality and is given within 15 mins of ordering. If I lived in slo, I would come here everyday!!!

I would have probably rated the restaurant on a negative score, given an option....the food was average, what made the experience horrible was the service provided by the owner, he was rude, sarcastic and obnoxiously sick in the head,if you don't want to be insulted or demeaned I urge you to look around for other restaurants in the SLO but this.....what... I have been to more than a dozen Indian restaurants in several countries on different continents, but Shalimar is the only restaurant with Caucasian servers (the owners are Indian though)! The restaurant was packed and some people were waiting to be seated. I was wary when I saw that most of the customers were Caucasian (the old saying that restaurants... More

The ever so popular all you can eat lunch that does offers a variety of Indian tastings along with salad. Served by the very nice family that runs the restaurant. There is also a menu to order if you choose not to have the buffet. Again the flavors, variety and aroma are wonderful. I try to have lunch here at... More

I am really sad that former Indian restaurant "Jewel of India" are no longer in business at this location. The family was very nice that owned the place and everything I ever ate there was fantastic. I have only eaten here at "Shalimar" twice (once with friends during the Sunday afternoon buffet and this evening, when I ordered off the... More

Shalimar is in a fairly basic building, but the food and service were quite good. They did a good job in fitting our tastes on spicyness, and we enjoyed all the dishes that we had ordered.

We have two daughters attending Cal Poly, one is a vegan and the other a vegetarian, and whenever we visit them in SLO, going out for a family dinner at Shalimar is a must. It is our favorite Indian restaurant, and although they have a pretty extensive menu, we always end up ordering the vegetable Samosas, a couple of different... More

Love their Nam and Spinach Paneer! We also had a shrimp with Potato curry but it is just fine (the shrimp is quite small and the sauce is kind of un-authentic). Their Basmati rice is great with a lot of flavor!

We ate the lunch buffet in this welcoming, authentic Indian restaurant. The ambience needs some help as does the cleanliness of the floor and paintwork. However, the food was very good and the service attentive and friendly. My major concern was the temperature at which the buffet was served. We were early into the lunch time buffet, but certain 'hot'... More
