always hits the spot...

Usually try to order something different each time I go but I was in the mood for a shrimp cocktail and boy was it good. Loaded with shrimp I could not get my spoon in the glass. With a little extra cilantro and ketchup and a touch of hot sauce...I was in heaven.

Average overall place. Decent food, midrange price, ok service and open late. Nothing extraordinary, but nothing bad either. Great cocktails!

I've tried these eating establishments a few times, and always leave very disappointed. They serve draught beer (without a head) in a glass canning jar, for instance, Their was no presentation of the food. It was like a machine just plopped it down on the plate.

This was the first place I stopped after arriving in Oakland I was so hungry. The restaurant's decor has a mexican feel to it. It was after the lunch hour so it was not very crowded. The huge menu made it a little hard to decide on what to order. They immediately bought out chips and salsa and I really... More

A group of us had a late lunch, around 3:30PM. The order taking was a little slow either due to a shift change or a very busy waitress. However, the food was worth waiting for. I had the huevos rancheros. That is, I had sunny side up eggs on a tortilla, covered with jack cheese, a mild sauce, and onions.... More

Ordered to go, the deep fried snapper dish . The place was packed and parking full but eventually found a spot when a car pulled out....perfect timing! Call ahead. Yvette, who took my to go order, was friendly and knowledgeable. She explained the dish comes with Spanish rice, refried beans with cheese on top, tortilla chips, salsa, and corn or... More

The huevos rancheros were excellent-fresh & hot-but the service was non existent-stood at entryway for eternity-no one to greet me-then when I wad seated waited again to order & thought I would never get the check after eating-and this wasvwhen it hadn't been busy-don't go unless you have a lot of time on your hands!

As a local, I love coming to La Piñata, where I enjoy both the restaurant and bar area. The food is always tasty and the service has always been pleasant. I especially enjoy their tacos, quesadillas, fajitas and burritos. You can't beat their Happy Hour (I will admit it's a bummer that they shortened the happy hours once the new... More
