We found this restaurant by walking by. My friends and I traveled to San Juan Capistrano by Amtrak to check out the Los Rios Historic District. After soaking up all the history from the late 1700's and early 1800's we walked into the newer part of town and found this historic restaurant for lunch. The northern section was originally the... El Adobe has great fresh made Mexican food. I personally enjoy the President's choice (it was the meal the President Nixon used to ask for when he ate there). Our waiter was very helpful. The salsa is home made and excellent. Based in the town's original jail, there is a great ambiance.

We were the last customers of the day on a Sunday night, so the room was very quiet. Food was very good. I asked the waiter to substitute more beans instead of rice, and he brought a separate bowl of black beans along with a larger portion of refried beans. Very accommodating. I had a combination plate with a burrito,... More

Great Mexican restaurant! Love the barbacoa! Good place to go for tacos in San Juan! Happy hour is fun too! Great music seems to be going on all the time!

El Adobe is located within a wonderful historic building; the setting is what all the other mexican restaurants try to copy and build. The food is as good and original as the building. There are several dining areas, a beautiful bar area and small patio on the street. El Adobe is always on the top of our list of classic... More

This is a great Mexican/continental restaurant in an old historic building. The prices are reasonable. It's also where President Nixon came (his favorite) when he was in the Western White House. There are several different rooms to dine in, all different.

This was a first visit to El Adobe de Capistrano and most definitely will return. The food was fresh and very well prepared. Service was excellent. There was a wedding going on in the lower level during our visit and that just added to the festive air of the restaurant. We had a delightful meal.

Love the nachos, chicken, beef or plain...they are very tasty. Great happy hour-1/2 price appetizers offered in the bar and the drinks are reduced. Nice house tequila...the real thing, 100% agave. Would recommend to anyone! Miguel and Sara do a nice job bartending.
