My wife and I were in San Jose for the weekend and just wandering in the Santana Row area looking for a place to have dinner. We had no recommendation for this restaurant but it looked interesting and the menu was varied. Great choice! We sat outside - not on the street but at the quieter area to the side.... More

Had dinner after a movie on a Friday night which was enjoyable. Went at 6:00 and it was not crowded until later. We sat inside, but could have sat outside as there were plenty of heaters as folks were sitting in short sleeves. The bar was busy. My husband had the lamb shank and I had the salmon which were... I have dined here on two occasions and both times the food has been amazing. The brie in filo with honey is a must for a starter - would recommend sharing - and the forbidden Thai curry is packed full of flavour, and of course there's a fantastic selection of wine available. A must go to each time we're in... More

I dropped in for dinner one night and it was busy, there was a bar area with space so I sat there. Very nice surrondings, very friendly staff, good knowledge of the local wines and the willingness to offer up some small tasters to back up their claim. I was not starved but I saw epanada's as a starter ...... More

Had the Village Break, 2 eggs, choice of meat, potatoes and muffin or toast. Ordered coffee asked if we wanted cream and sugar only brought cream. Coffee not very hot. Coffee refills were slowing coming.Food came quickly. No salt or pepper on the table had to ask for it. Roast potatoes and applewood bacon were excellent! I've had as good... More

I loved this place for a couple of reason. One is food: they have a great selection of fish but also good meat offering. The appetizer are great and I love to taste the Kobe carpaccio with truffle olive oil. Truffle? Kobe beef? Sounds expensive! And this is my second reason: it is not. It is a reasonably priced place... More

Went to this place in a group of 13 guys - business trip. They were superb. Excellent wines, good food, and important for me, good dessert wines (Tokaji/Tokay). No faulting them. Service persisted to the bitter end!

I live near Santana Row and periodically return to the Village Bistro to see if they've gotten any better food-wise, and alas, I'm always disappointed. It's not bad food, it's just a bit assembly-line tasting, i.e., as though there wasn't an actual chef doing the cooking, just minimum wage employees who were shown how to make everything. They frequently do... More

I agree with a prior review that this restaurant is less pretentious than most others on Santana Row -- nice atmosphere but a bit more subdued. We ate here at 830 on a Sat night and got a table right away. If I'd known there were lots of heaters outside we would have sat there, but we had a nice... More

I enjoy the ambiance of Santana row even if it is, as some have said, a bit pretentious. California Bistro sits at the end of the row but is always well attended, even on a week night. We sat inside but would have been quite comfortable outside as, unlike many restaurants with outdoor seating, CAB has LOTS of heaters. Our... More
