I visited Henry's again after about a decade away, and the atmosphere, food, and service remain wonderful. To be honest, the atmosphere is what is most compelling about this San Jose landmark. It's in a category with Original Joes when it comes to grasping a glimpse of old San Jose. The simple... read more

The building is the attraction here. A very old, long-time food venue in San Jose. The BBQ food is good, but not exceptional. The salad that comes with your food is basic iceberg lettuce with ordinary dressing. But that's not the point here. It's tradition. You take a number when you come in, then order your food off a board... More

Stopped here for lunch, to take advantage of the New Year's break from the office. Unlike the evening dinner routine there's a couple of changes. Firstly, menus on the tables, instead of the somewhat quirky "order from the billboard while standing in the bar" Secondly, the food options are set for lunch; but you still have your choice of Steaks,... We went to this restaurant because it was featured on the TV show "Man vs Food". We called prior to arriving to make dinner reservations... ahhh, nope, it does not work that way, their motto is "first come, first served." When we arrived we parked on premises for free, we entered the bar and were told to "pick a number".... More

This was our second visit to Henry's our first was a disaster as it was so busy and packed. We were time restricted so we could not done. This time we were there for 5pm when they start serving food although the bar was already open and people were waiting for food. We placed our order and within 20 mins... More

We went on a Sunday evening, about 4pm. No wait. There were three of us, we tried the chicken, the ribs and the ribeye. We also tried the mushrooms. The restaurant smells of wonderful BBQ before you even walk in. I just didn't think it was anything great. The chicken was dry and the mushrooms we sent back. The ribs... More

If you ever wanted to know what it was like to be a cave man, I'd imagine this is a pretty good approximation. Oh sure, they throw a potato on your plate and give you a little salad before hand, but the experience is all about the perfectly cooked meats. In hind sight, I wish I'd gone for the ribs,... More

As I normally spend several weeks every year in San Jose, Henry's hi-life has become a frequent destination. Forget about salads and other stuff, go for the ribs - to die for! Good selection of beers on tap, friendly service that never felt rushed to me albeit the huge queue. Highly recommended.

Finding parking near the Shark Tank is no easy feat, but when we did, we were lucky enough to find a spot directly across from Henry's Hi-Life. This old-timey, nondescript building is not hard to miss since it is on the corner and does having parking in the back. I wasn't expecting much, but hey, it was early so why... More

I rarely write a bad review, but unfortunately out of the six Man vs Food restaurants I have visited (New York, Pittsburgh, Texas and now California), this one was the most disappointing. I definitely recommend the staff, the atmosphere, the beer selection (especially because they had Angry Orchard Cider which I love) and most definitely the pricing, but basically it... More
