The best Italian food in the South Bay

A staple of downtown San Jose, OJ's is absolutely a place I try to take people from out of town for the greats eats, and it's old school charm. it seems as thought the staff are all professionals, in that they enjoy what they do and have been doing it for awhile. The waiters in tuxedos is a great... read more

Nothing special about the food here. It wasn't GREAT, and it wasn't bad. Not worth the price. I had the strip, and it was average. Nice cut of meat, but as far as flavor goes...meh. I tried their ..I can't remember the name of their special garlic butter sauce....and it was NOT good at all. I think their clientele are... More

This restaurant is a throwback to the 1930s-40s in ambiance (wood-paneled booths, lunch counter, bar in the back room) decor, waitstaff (attentive, uniformed waiters, average length of service 20+ years; waitresses? never seen one here), and menu (well-prepared pasta, chops and steaks, seafood, salads). Been going here for 10+ years - everyone I've ever taken here has enjoyed it but... More

Have always liked sitting at the counter, ordering a steak and watching the cooks simmer down a large pan of mushrooms. Always an enjoyable time sitting at Joes counter.

Stopped in for a quick drink and was impressed with tthe quality of the bartenders. These guys are of the old school variety good pours with good stories, entertaining with a good ambience. Makes for a nice drinking spot when in town. I'll have to order some food next time I'm here.

I first ate here in the early 1960's. Unfortunately it has been a down hill run ever since. The food isn't half as good as it was in the 80's and 90's at quadruple the price. No parking. Again a place trying to survive on an old established reputation. Wake up people it may be semi trendy, because of nostalgia... More

Normally before a soccer match, we tailgate at the stadium, but with a game on Tuesday night, after work my wife and I went to a place as comfortable as well worn Earthquakes Jersey. Original Joe's makes the best Charbroiled Hamburger in town, but like any good tailgate one must start with some refreshing beverages. OJ's has a good selection... More

And the fact that they never change is a good thing! We had lunch hear after shopping all day. this place is awesome! I had the ribeye which was fabulous and my husband had pasta dish, absolutely fabulous! We shared a bottle of wine which was very very nice. It has been years since we have been here and I... More

This is really a classic American take on Italian food. Waiters in tuxes, steaks and pastas on the menu. They have 3/4 - size portions of their pasta entrees, a real plus for light eaters. Going on 60 years in the business, and it definitely harks back to those times.

The service is always great, the place is loud, the portions are massive (2 checkens, two chops, etc.) and the place is iconic. A must-do restaurant experience!
