Folks, looking for a little farm to table action well this is probably as close as it comes in good ol' San Jose. Small joint with a pleasant atmosphere serving well whats really fresh and available at the time. Menu variation is explosive due to the high level of knowledge and creativity in the kitchen. Spirits are top shelf and... More

I called this Jekyll and Hyde because at lunch the restaurant is Kansui - a Ramen restaurant - which I have not been to and in the evening it is Hay Market a dinner restaurant espousing local foods. That is the one I am talking about. The restaurant is totally unpretentious almost factory "bar-room" y family style seating you might... More

I was expecting more paleo choices but found only a few. I ordered the pork butt and found it bland. I had expected much more flavor especially as expensive as it was. The food and service was good but not exceptional.

This is a much lauded, recent, locavore restaurant. The menu is limited to four or five appetizers, few salads and soups, four or five entrees and a couple desserts. Apparently, the menu changes quite frequently, although this restaurant's website, as sparse as it is, does not upload updated menus. Places with frequently changing menus with limited choices usually make me... More

What a terrific find. A simple idea with a striking results. Three movie screens running with foreign movies with no sound. Food was delicious and original. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Community tables make it feel very European. will definitely return again and again.

Hay Market is a great addition to Willow Glen. The food is fresh, flavorful, and inventive. The daily menu is printed out, and also listed on a giant chalkboard on the wall. I've enjoyed lunches and dinners at Hay Market, and although I may be disappointed that a favorite dish has moved off the menu, there's always a new pleasure... More

My boyfriend and I were looking for something somewhat unique and a little hipper than what it seems is generally available in San Jose. We are in the process of moving up now, and have been checking out spots we may want to frequent. The Hay market sounded like the perfect choice. We started with beer, wine and a cheese... More

Had a wonderful fresh green salad w/ citrus dressing, sauteed carrots (very good flavor), cheese platter (very good) and penne pasta (too much tomatoe, nice flavor). Seating at long tables serving wine. In Center of Willow Glen. Staff could be a bit more personable. Look for the bales of hay out front. No sign.

I tried the Hay Market's take out food and ordered the salmon. It was the best I'd ever had. It was so fresh and very delicious! I also tried their charcuterie and dessert, both equally fabulous in taste. The owner, Joe, was friendly and did an excellent job describing their style and menu. It has a nice casual atmosphere and... More
