Went for "happy hour" with the intention of staying for dinner. Was told by waiter that we couldn't have happy hour drinks unless we were sitting at the bar or ordered something from the regular menu--even though we were sitting at tavern tables in the bar area. The location is great, right on the main street in San Clemente nestled in all the local shops. The food was average at best. The chips not authentic and were dyed multiple colors. You can't visit sunny Southern California without enjoying Mexican food. There are so many places, but El Ranchito is a great start. It's our local fave. The service is not ALWAYS great, but the food is consistenly good and kids eat free on Wednesdays. Look for us then!! more
Though I have had a couple of bad experiences at other Avila's El Ranchito restaurant, this one is an exception. Friendly staff, clean premises and good food served promptly.
