This is a small Mexican food restaurant with great food. Lots of Mexican dishes as well as fish and chips, burgers, and of course cold Corona. The people are great and the cook can take special requests, or if you just order a surprise you will not be disappointed.

EL Jefe is still the best authentic Family-Owned Mexican Restaurant in San Clemente. It's 2013! My boyfriend, NOW husband, and I are still coming here! We've live in San Clemente since 2000 and we're still come here for Taco Tuesday because it is the BEST--much better than La Siesta! Where can you find a fried or grilled FISH tacos less... More

Older restaurant, not in the trendy area of town, but friendly, efficient service, good prices, clean (including restrooms). Has it's own parking, which is a plus in that town!

Really simple and unassuming restaurant. Food is pretty good and service is quick. Love the machaca. Always come here for Mexican.

authentic Mexican food, quaint. Not greasy, very fresh tasting, the fish and chips are fabulous. The soup is also very good, beer on tap.

We go to El Jefe every monday and enjoy their food selection week after week. They have items not found in many restaurants serving Mexican food. Everything tastes great.

And I won't eat here. Tried to twice...same results. Bleh! Need more? The service was so laid back they barely know you came in the door. Food just unimpressive.

I usually love to try the most "hole in the wall" places as I often find that these have the best food, but I was very disappointed in El Jefe. The food was bland and uninteresting. The first sign of trouble was the salsa which is served with tortilla chips at the table. My husband asked if there was another... More

Just a small place off El Camino Real. Named after it's reputation for being a good place to pick up a day laborer (back when it shared a parking lot with the local hardware store. A family run restaurant offering authentic Mexican food at a very reasonable price. Beer by the bottle, glass or picture, too. They are also well... More
