Amazing Pastrami, and I dont like Pastrami

On my travels while on business we heard great reviews of this restaurant. We got there before they opened and waited the couple minutes, in those few mins a couple of other people joined us...and by the time they opened there was about 20 people ready to come inside. Since the reviews were... read more

The Refuge is one of those restaurants when someone says.. How about a Belgium Ale and a Sandwich.. The Refuge is the answer.... always. They have a great seltion of Belgium beers, great burgers.. maybe the best and their Reubens are to die for.. might have to go there today now that I am writing this.. Fries are also Perfect!

If you love Pastrami, good pastrami, not the pastrami you typically find in sandwich shops floating for hours in stainless steel trays filled with warm, greasy water, check out the Refuge. I haven't enjoyed a Reuben that much since my days of frequenting the Carnegie and Stage delis in NYC. Warning! Don't expect quiet conversation with Aunt Mabel, or conversation... More

Didn't order any pastrami, boohoo me but I really enjoyed the Refuge. The atmosphere is really good but get a little loud, was here for a girl's night and we could barely hear each other. But still nice laid back atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and the service is fast. I had the Tilapia sandwich and it was absolutely... More

My husband and I ate lunch there. He had the pastrami and I had the dumplings. The pastrami was cut thick and was mediocre at best. My was fine but again, not impressive. San Carlos is filled with wonderful restaurants but this is not one of them no matter how many people line up.

Dined here on recommendation of our daughter's family. Outstanding Pastrami sandwiches!!!! We also had Brussels sprouts which we fought over with the kids. Cauliflower soup was not so good, but the goofy fries were wonderful. We had just come from NYC where we ate twice at the Carnegie Deli which knocks our socks off... This was different but just as... We sat outside because the wait for a table inside was over 30 minutes. It was still chilly even with a heater nearby. The drinks and food was great. Big burgers, cooked to order. I like the place.

Their pastrami is so tender, so delicious, so special that it defies description. I can honestly say you have never eaten pastrami like this before, because it's unique to Refuge. Go early, as there is always a waiting list to get in!

My wife and I stumbled upon this place during a trip to San Francisco last week. We got there just in time as the restaurant became more and more busy. I ordered a Philly cheese steak and she ordered the Ruben. Both were excellent. I would also highly suggest ordering the goofy fries, where they add cheese and pastrami. Excellent!

If you love pastrami, you MUST go here. It's as good as it gets. Burgers, salads, everything else we've tried has been excellent as well, but the pastrami is truly special. The selection of imported ales and beers is excellent as well. Highly recommended.
