Dined here on recommendation of our daughter's family. Outstanding Pastrami sandwiches!!!! We also had Brussels sprouts which we fought over with the kids. Cauliflower soup was not so good, but the goofy fries were wonderful. We had just come from NYC where we ate twice at the Carnegie Deli which knocks our socks off... This was different but just as... We sat outside because the wait for a table inside was over 30 minutes. It was still chilly even with a heater nearby. The drinks and food was great. Big burgers, cooked to order. I like the place.

Their pastrami is so tender, so delicious, so special that it defies description. I can honestly say you have never eaten pastrami like this before, because it's unique to Refuge. Go early, as there is always a waiting list to get in!

My wife and I stumbled upon this place during a trip to San Francisco last week. We got there just in time as the restaurant became more and more busy. I ordered a Philly cheese steak and she ordered the Ruben. Both were excellent. I would also highly suggest ordering the goofy fries, where they add cheese and pastrami. Excellent!

If you love pastrami, you MUST go here. It's as good as it gets. Burgers, salads, everything else we've tried has been excellent as well, but the pastrami is truly special. The selection of imported ales and beers is excellent as well. Highly recommended.

The pastrami sandwich was certainly good but not worth $17.95. New York City restaurants with better pastrami don't charge like this place does. And the noise level is very high.

The pastrami at Refuge is really good. One of the best I've had but the prices are high. A basic pastrami sandwich was $18 or $19. The menu is limited but good. The staff is friendly and attentive. So, the pastrami was great but plan to pay $18 for a sandwich, sides are extra.

Came late Saturday afternoon and it was PACKED! Had a little wait so we strolled Downtown San Carlos. We shared the Reuben which was amazing. The pastrami is so delicious! We also shared the mac and cheese and it wasn't special. Finally we squeezed in the bread pudding which did not disappoint, probably one of the best I've ever had.... More

Go. Just go. Now. Have the Reuben. You will understand. It melts in your mouth with wonderfulness. Don't wait another minute. Go.

The staff is super friendly and the waitress told me her favorite so I had to follow her suggestion! I had 1/2 Ruben and 1/2 Pastrami with Slaw! Amazing to say the least! I'm not a huge fan of the beers they have, but that's just me! What I didn't expect was how large the portions are, I was stuffed!... More
