The Refuge is a great place for Pastrami and Beer!

The Refuge has a very pleasant atmosphere, and is a welcome spot to have a Beer and food with friends. I recommend stopping in to sample the Pastrami and a good Belgian beer. I simply just love this place. It's my go-to location when I had out of town guests and it is a great casual date restaurant. The signature pastrami is fantastic and I love the homemade pickles they serve with their sandwiches. Of course, their beer extension is extensive however the last time I visited I notice fewer actual Belgian beers... More

The Wandering Yank here again. I visited San Carlos recently to have dinner with 2 friends, one a local who recommended Refuge. He knew I was looking forward to some good draft beer, since my current home country isn't exactly awash in good brews. This place fit the bill perfectly! I'm not a big fan of Belgian beers, but they... More

Omg. We read about this restaurant and their pastrami so we had to try it. Very simple little place. Lots of incredible beers on tap. And the pastrami. Oh my, the pastrami. We opted for the Reuben. It was ready in five minutes. Light rye with caraway seeds. Perfect. Just the right amount of sauerkraut and a perfectly melted slice... More

You really can't go wrong with anything in the menu. Both their Reuben's and burgers are awesome. Tried the chopped liver for the first time and, like their other dishes, it was a cut above.

Best pastrami ever πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ΄ I am from the east and have eaten at Carnegie, Stage and Katz delis in New York... Refuge pastrami is definitely the best I've ever had... Sorry to say but it's true...sooo much flavor, moist, and not salty just all flavor ... We also had the seared tilapia sandwich which was amazing too...Saw this on Triple... More

Had to try this out, Gus Fieri was there, ya know. I have been to quite a few D, D, and Dives, this one actuqally met my expectations. Busy busy place, I was solo, sat at the bar, got there about 1 in the afternoon. Food was served quickly, hot, tasty. A little pricy but I bet you could not... More

Saw The Refuge on DDD, Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Was in town on business and promised myself I would stop if I could. I did and holy wow! This was the better than I ever thought it could be! I willow spend the rest of my life working on ways to get back there again!

There's a reason this place is always crowded...the quality of every dish is superb. My usual is the Half Ruben sandwich...generously packed with juicy pastrami with picked onions and a quartered dill pickle on the side. If you still have room, the bread pudding is amazing...warm, a bit of a crunch on the outside, soft on the inside, served with... More
