Black Bear Diner is not my favorite breakfast place in Salinas, but it definitely isn't the worst. :) My family always orders the Chicken Fried Steak, and I have to admit it is pretty good. I often get the Hot Italian Sausage and Eggs, which is good, and I recently got the Southern Scramble (Biscuit, Sausage, Eggs, Gravy) which was... More

The environment is very good. The food is tasty but the employees are not reliable. I ordered a rib with two sides and a corn bread. They didn't served the baked potatoe that I ordered, neither the bread. My wife ordered a ravioli stuffed with ricota, but they served one with meat. But the worst was the waiteress that lied... Road House Family Menu. Many fried items and high calorie desserts. It is not outstanding but is buffered from the competition

The food is excellent, the staff is attentive, and the music is fun. Portions are huge, and the food is like home made (it is), comfort food. Love the pot roast, the turkey, the fried chicken, red skinned mashed are delicious!

Truly flexible disc preparations, overly generous proportions, a splendid value. Easy on-off from US 101 on a Laurel Avenue off ramp. Great baked goods.

Traveling through California we stopped at this place. We wanted something hopefully tasting like home cooking. We didn't feel like fast food. The food was good and the servings were big. Service was good and prices were very fair. I know its not a fancy 5 star kind of place and I wasn't expecting the best tasting food I ever... More

This diner is not up to the chains stated goals! Looks like an old place retrofitted to a Black Bear and not well done. I ordered fish & chips which were greasy. Husband's Patty Melt was bland with more onions than meat. "home made" potato was tasteless. $10 avg. meal is overpriced. Lacked atmosphere, won't return!

Pile it high and bring the food eventually. Food was ok...nothing special unless you go for huge portions alone.
