Reliably excellent breakfast & lunch spot

Year after year, First Awakenings has proven to be a hospitable place to have breakfast or lunch in old town Salinas. I gladly recommend it to anyone in the area.

First Awakening is the place to go for breakfast in Salinas or Pacific Grove. The staff in very friendly and attentive. If there is a wait, complimentary coffee is made available and they move quickly to get you in and enjoy your meal. Food is great and they offer generous serving..AWESOME!

On an RV trip to Sacramento we stopped in Greenfield for two nights; decided to take the country road, G17, to Salinas. After walking Main Street (nice antique mall) we stopped for lunch here, yummy! The staff were very efficient & extremely pleasant. Although we didn't eat breakfast everything that came out looked amazing. We had the Bay Burger (calamari)... More

I went to lunch today at First Awakenings with friends, and I got the Cobb Salad and they had the Sizzling Oriental Salad. The Cobb Salad was excellent, from the crumbled blue cheese to the real turkey, bacon, tomato, etc over spinich and romaine leaves. The Sizzling Oriental Salad was very good, but less dressing would have been better my... More

What a great place to stop for breakfast on our southerly sojourn through California. In old town Salinas, with plenty of street parking, is an old corner building that is home to 1st Awakenings. What a treat! Kiley was our stellar server, sunny a ms helpful. Our food, my crispy corned beef hash with perfectly cooked poached eggs and my... More

I came with a co worker and man it was awesome. I went and ordered the Breakfast Burrito and I was not disappointed. It had a lot of sour cream and everything I wanted. The service was top notch and very friendly. I will be back very soon on my next trip to Salinas.

The food here was excellent as was the service. I ate the eggs Benedict and my husband had a skillet breakfast. Both were great. The restaurant is beautiful inside with lots of wood and some stained glass panels. The prices were reasonable and they left both a coffee carafe and a pitcher of water at the table for easy refills.

The service is fast and friendly and the food is delicious. This place is known for their pancakes, but the skillets are flavorful and comforting. Definitely highly recommended and popular too judging from the lines during peak breakfast/brunch periods like on weekends. Still, the wait is usually less than 20 minutes.

Everything was adequate, but oo expensive for the quality. I had a half Cobb Salad. It looked fresh, but had no flavor--well, the bacon and the blue cheese tasted like themselves. The spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, turkey, and egg had no flavor. I use very little dressing, actually just balsamic vinegar and lemon wedges, so I can taste my salads. These... More

Generous portions and when ordering the pancake, order one since it takes up the whole plate. Food is excellent although a bit on the pricey side. Average price for breakfast around $10 and coffee $2.88.
