It's great when there is a local alternative to "fast food" breakfasts served at chain restaurants. First Awakenings is just such a place. Try their stack of wonderful, homemade pancakes or an excellent omelet. The service is always good, the food tasty, and the prices very reasonable. They furnish coffee when there's a short wait. The food is worth any... More

First Awakenings has such a varied menu and the servings are quite large. The food has always been excellent and the service staff is very attentive. Best breakfast in Monterey

When traveling I always try and hit the local spots. This was recommended by an associate of mine... it was GREAT. I arrived early and selected a booth by the window. Nice downtown area with free street parking. The menu offered typical breakfast and lunch choices, but they were more than willing to substitute/make what you want. Just a really... More

Simply stated, good food at a reasonable price. There's usually a bit of a wait on the weekends but they offer free coffee while you're waiting outside.

This is absolutely the best place to go for breakfast in Salinas. They serve breakfast and lunch until 2 p.m. Favorites on their menu include their skillet breakfast (home potatoes with a scramble of your choice served in a skillet), and their eggs benedict. Just recently tried the crab benedict and it was fantastic. Highly recommended!

My aunt and I visited First Awakenings for breakfast, and it was fabulous. She had an incredible omelette with blue cheese and veggies, and I had eggs Benedict with spinach and mushrooms. They were enormous plates, so we had to take our leftovers home, but it was excellent. The service was also great. We had a very kind waitress who... More

I enjoy eating at First Awakenings because the staff is super fast and friendly and the food is consistently fantastic. They are generous in their portions, give you your own pot of coffee to enjoy and let you eat in peace. Sometimes there is a little wait - but when you find yourself skipping lunch because you are so full... More

We wanted to arrive at the Monterey Aquarium right when it opened to avoid the crowds, so we decided to have breakfast right across the street at First Awakenings. We weren't disappointed. The menu has both the usual breakfast fare, as well as many unique options. The service was fast and friendly, and the prices were reasonable. Overall, a very... More
