It's not quite fair to give this place a 4 out of 5. It is somewhere between. It's unassuming and has a nice Italian feel without pretending to duplicate genuine Italian atmosphere. It is "solid" and by that I mean, it is honest and its food is sincere while at the same time adequately original. The plate of antipasti was... More

The wine maker at a late morning visit and tasting suggested Cook, just down the main Napa wine road, in the charming little town of St. Helena. Almost empty when we arrived just before noon, all the (30?) seats and stools at the short bar were full by 12:15 on a Wednesday. Lesson learned: arrive early! The lunch menu was... More

I do not know why it took me so long to find this place but it is great! Very down home friendly people. The appetizers are the best. Always something different when we go there. Wine is also good. Has an Itailian flare but is not Itailian. Brussels Spouts are really good and so is the Calamari.

So much great food to pack in such a small space! We visited in off-season, and all tables were full for lunch. Can't imagine what the wait time must be when the wine tourists arrive. But no matter the wait, what fabulous food. We had a simple lunch of soup and pasta -- flavorful, farm-fresh ingredients. Great selection of wines... More

BEST brussle sprouts and risotto in Napa Valley -hands down!...A small quaint restaurant- always packed, great food, friendly service, a locals favorite to eat at the bar. Consistently great! Genevieve is our favorite

Stopped in for lunch after hearing good things. It is amazing food. Some of the best I've had in N. California. Want to go back for dinner on the next visit.

By far the best food in the area. Our favorite spot to eat for both lunch and dinner. We have never had a meal in Cook that we did not like. The eggplant Parmesan, made on wednesdays, is amazing and the flour less chocolate cake is worth showing up for no matter here you had your meal. The service is... More

On a business trip, I had only 6 free hours--so I walked downtown St. Helena looking for where there was a crowd at 2:00 on a Thursday-my trick for finding a great restaurant. Cook fit the bill--and sure enough, it was filled with happy locals. The bartender Adam was so friendly and helped me with a wine that was not... More

When we travel we try to find a hole in the wall away from the hype. Food Network chefs with elaborate, over the top menus and prices to match should stay in Los Vegas. Napa Valley is a tourist destination with the infrastructure to match. My Bay Area friends even refused to join us as jaded long time visitors often... More
