Best restaurant in Sacramento by far!!

The greatest oysters, Vodka and tonic to start. They even make the tonic from scratch!! The main courses are wonderful, fish, chicken or beef (we all shared). Side dishes were so good, the potatoes were yummy. The wine selection is second to none...thank you Josh for the recommendation.

My husband received a 14 ounce steak that covered 2/3 of his plate, while I received two small tail pieces of fish, stacked over a smattering of chickpeas and bell pepper slices. My fish was dry and had to be cut with a knife. Our server said that portion sizes are the chef's choice. Ella did not charge for my... More

We ate here on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is only open one Sunday during the year - Mother's Day. We were unable to get a reservation in the dining room and therefore sat in the bar. We enjoyed excellent food and service. We had fresh and delicious oysters on the half shell, cedar plank roasted Toma cheese, pan roasted... More

OK, so I went back to Ella's 2 nights in a row while in Sacramento for a conference. Yes, it was THAT good! The food was outstanding. Not pretentious nor overly fussy at all. Simply the best organic ingredients in very interesting and unusual combinations that made eating out at this beautiful restaurant a real treat! The prices aren't inexpensive,... More

My son and daughter- in-law took my sister and me for My birthday lunch. Difficult to choose from their wonderful menu! The service was just right - not hovering, but always there when needed. I had the asparagus with a delicious sauce, the Ella Reuben (the best ever) and the mascarpone creme brûlée. We all shared tastes and resolved to... More

Ella's food is fine, the service is attentive - but I get the feeling that without an expense account there is nothing here that so distinguishes the place that it is worth a second look. I've been there several times. And each time, I keep thinking of Peggy Lee - is that all there is?

I have been here twice, and both times at happy hour (3-6), once on a Tuesday, and once on a Friday. Both times, the were very busy, and I see why. The standard happy hour wines are great, and very reasonably priced. The happy hour dishes are small, but I find one or two dishes (under $10, each) to be... More

We were looking for a drink and light lunch and this bar was recommended by our hotel. We arrived a little late for table service and we're happy to sit at the bar. The food selection was good and we shared the selection of cheeses with a glass of Chardonnay. Good service. The house gin & tonic is not to... More
