Rollin' on the River

Ate here as it was close to our hotel; a pleasant surprise. Very casual and RIGHT on the river. It was fun to watch the boats, paddleboarders, etc. My husband and I don't have huge appetites so we both ordered off the appetizer menu. He said his crab cakes were excellent; my mac & cheese definitely... read more

it's a very casual slice of life type restaurant. looked like it had a crowd of regulars. I was really disappointed by the lack of selection for vegetarians. But, if you are looking for a casual bar-food type restaurant with a view of the river. This is a fine choice.

The sturgeon is located on the Sacramento River along the garden highway. It is easily accessible and has riverside tables and service. Food is plentiful and of good quality along with reasonably priced drinks and wine. They often have excellent seafood and a variety of specials. Prices are reasonable, within 15-25 dollars per person. A reasonably priced evening and low... More

I have been here twice on business travel for dinner. Go during the day and you get a great view of the river. It is entertaining to enter the restaurant from the very steep gang walkway. (A few too many and the trip back out could get interesting!) Food is excellent and was consistent on both visits. A great little... More

The food here is awesome. Catfish and the shrimp are my favs. Love to be right on the water, nice experience. The folks that work here are super nice and make sure you have everything you need.

The place literally rocks. It is a boat and food is great too. This is my second trip to the Sturgeon and breakfast is as good as dinner. The crab omelet was delicious as was the trout and eggs. If you are in Sacramento you have to stop by.

My very brief experience here was unexpectedly very bad. I was hoping for a good meal and a drink or two at the bar. Upon sitting down I got a nod and finger point from the gruff bartender indicating that he was ready to take my order. Unshaven for days and dressed in an old tee shirt .. An image... More

Recommended by our hotel, we tried it, against our better judgement; we knew better than to order steak at a seafood restaurant. I told the server my rib eye steak compared to a hamburger steak. Additionally we had a party of 8, and 4 had to accept mashed potatoes as they run out of baked (?). We were further aggravated... More

The Virgin Sturgeon is one of our favorite lunch spots during our normal safety patrols of the Sacramento River. It has docking facilities and we are able to keep an eye on the boat. Food is quick, plenty and flavorful. Often times we are limited in our lunch break time and the staff makes sure we get in and out.... More

We visited The Virgin Sturgeon after having been on flights all day from NJ. We knew we'd be tired and we wanted a local, no-nonsense place for dinner and a few drinks. This small restaurant is a barge on the water. You walk down an old airline gangway to enter. The hostess is also one of two waitresses. I started... More
