Magpie in new, better location

I took my Mom to the new Magpie location at 16th and P Streets. The inside is much roomier although it is the same seasonal menu on butcher paper and daily menus. You place your order and then find a seat. I loved my BLT although the purple potato salad had a bit too much vinegar. My mom thought... read more

Magpie has been an old favorite for a night out with the wife but they moved to a new and bigger location so I wondered if they would keep the charm of what they started with. Well the physical atmosphere is very different. It's now a modernistic industrial style place that while very appealing is very loud. That makes it... More

I live and work in Sacramento and have always heard great things about this little café (just recently moved form small original location to larger, newer location - still downtown). Farm to fork. Had the pulled pork and BLT sandwiches with organic purple potato salad. Weekends focus on brunch so their lunch is limited. Will come back for dinner. Open... More

The new location in downtown Sacramento is more spacious, but extremely loud due to all of the hard surfaces and crowds at lunch time. A friend and I ate there recently, and even though it was a weekday and we arrived around 11:45, the restaurant was crowded, with only some inside seating available (it was a great day to eat... I had great experiences at their old location. I've only been the the new location once and the service wasn't very good--all the servers seemed confused and it took a long time. We ordered food and soups, and they brought the soups really late and forgot to bring spoons--it was just odd. The food here is consistently good. The menu... More

I looked forward eagerly to Magpie Restaurant moving to its new digs on the corner of P and 16th streets in Sacramento. The menu is full of fresh food, and tasty and inventive recipes. The helpings are generous. Wait staff are friendly, helpful and gracious. But the NOISE! Laughter, conversation and piped-in music compete in what is an ear-ringing experience.... More

A line at 11am, but staff taking orders in the line. Food was delivered to tables quickly. My Vietnamese sandwich was tasty, a big chunk of roasted chicken, definitely NOT deli slices! Seasoning was great, andi love the pickled daikon. Too much cilantro for my taste. Companion had a beautiful salad & soup, but the soyp wasn't hot. To compensate... More

The beet and egg salad. The lemon chicken salad. Mac and cheese with roasted Brussels sprouts. . . All delicious. Best overall lunch in downtown Sacramento. Can be loud in here. Constructive criticism: The menu needs some change, getting a little worn. But I still love the Magpie and wish it a great move to the new location.

I have been to Magpie a number of times, and always had a delicious meal. I've also attended a wedding reception catered by Magpie. That food was equally delicious. The food is very fresh tasting. My favorites, so far, are the lemon chicken salad and the polenta with fresh vegetables. Also excellent are the desserts. My favorite is the carrot... More

I got the beet salad which was really tasty, albeit a little small. My boyfriend got the Vietnamese steak salad which was huge and he liked it (I'm mostly vegetarian). Service was good, food came quickly and the cafe is located in a cute part of Sacramento, not too busy or noisy.
